I strongly considering getting the Sager NP8150-S1, but I'll be using this for gaming and programming work. I understand the laptop will probably get quite warm while gaming, but how hot should I expect the bottom of the laptop to get while doing normal programming / multitasking work? I've seen plenty of reviews which cover the CPU / GPU temperature, but no one has really covered the surface temps on the bottom of the laptop.
So how about it? Is this thing going to make me sterile?![]()

sorry, dont have my laptop yet so i cant comment on heat. it seems cooling on the model is very efficient, so wouldn't imagine surface temps to be real high, except maybe around the exhaust vents..
edit: how'd you get 10rep off of 7 posts?? -
The palm area at least is cool to touch even after playing Starcraft II for an hour or so. As in it's actually cold, not even warm
-
Everything I've read and heard from other members shows the cooling is superb, I've occasionally heard gripes about fan noise, but that's it.

Edit: Maybe has something to do we me joining in 2007. -

I just played some BFBC2, and no, it does not get too hot downstairs. However, having the puter on your lap might (very likely will) obstruct the vents at the bottom, thus compromising cooling.

I use this cheap Coolermaster cooling pad when using the laptop in my lap mostly just to keep the intake vents free from obstruction. The fans on this are actually silent for the most part and they are adjustable so you can put the fans in the best spot for your laptop. I only turn on the fans when playing a game. It was $17 when I bought it.

If you don't want to worry about a cooling pad, I use the Lapinator and the accompanying Mousinator. It isn't powered, just a comfortable surface (padded on the bottom side, stiff plastic on top.) It also has the benefit of bumpers that raise the back of your laptop a little to get more airflow into the case.
I can't attest to its contributions towards your fertility, though. -
What cpu/gpu configuration are you getting?

For comparison, I have a Dell M4500 with the Quadro 1600m which I use on the lap all the time, and it never gets more than a little warm. Previously I had the first gen Asus G51 which would get uncomfortably warm even when not running a game.
