I am selling my NP8170 that I bought back in January of 2012. A buyer asked if the CPU and GPU were upgradable and I realised that I actually don't know as I don't ever consider upgrading laptops. I was hoping someone could help me out with more specifics about if it's possible or not and limitations if so.

The notebook has an Intel i7-2760QM and ATI 6990M at the moment.

Yes both are upgradable. The best options for both, CPU and GPU, are the 2960xm and the gtx 680m.

It will support any Intel second gen mobile CPU, easy way to tell is the 2 in the i7-"2"760QM. It can also support the 7970M GPU if you have a Hannstar LCD Panel, if you have a LG LCD panel then it may need to be sent into get Sager to be updated before it will support it.

Thanks guys. I will relay the message to the interested buyer. One more question: I've asked Reddit's BuildAPC community but only got one reply... What should I be asking or expecting for this notebook? The one person who responded said $700 was about right, which I have the notebook listed for, but the only offer I've gotten was for $475 which I feel is very low. The specs are listed in my signature, minus the Windows 7 Pro. I think I ended up with Home Premium.

Also, is eBay the way to go? I didn't see many NP8170s in the sold or completed listings.
