So I acquired a friend's NP8265 and it seems to have a problem with USB power. Whenever I connect a phone through USB it doesn't work, but instead it will go on and off continuously. I have tried different USB devices and the only one that seemed to trigger the issue is phones. I thought the problem might be high power devices but then I tried using an external HDD, my G500 mouse and a keyboard. Non of these devices faced any issues even while having two or more connected at the same time.

I cannot understand the source of the problem but I tried reinstalling drivers, using different ports (2.0/3.0), and also tried using Fn + Power button but it didn't work and the laptop just went off afterwards. At some point windows indicated that the USB device is not recognized, but I couldn't tell exactly how to reproduce this and this only occurred on one of the 3.0 ports. The laptop is running a pre-installed windows 7 premium.

    Any advice?

Turned out to be a problem with the USB cable. Although the one I'm using works with other devices (tested on various of laptops and desktops), it's not a genuine cable. So I went and tried my genuine USB cable and it worked well. I still think there is a problem with power but at this point I guess it's negligible.

Hope this helps anybody who goes through something similar.
