    Hello everyone,

I wanted to see if anyone knows if it is possible to turn on the NP8660 with an external keyboard. That is, stow away the laptop somewhere and basically run it as a desktop without having to lift the display to turn it on all the time.

    Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for the help.

    1) wake by USB keyboard might work if there was a low-level (BIOS) option to enable... but I do not think notebooks are made for that... unless if they have a proprietary dock.

    2) you do not want to use these gaming notebooks with the lid closed because it would actually be counter-productive to the cooling...
.... meaning that the notebook will heat up more since the lid will enclose the rising heat from the chassis and keyboard area.

You can leave the lid open and use the notebook on an external display, and that would be fine... just make sure to monitor the temps, and use the notebook on a good surface (clean, hard, flat... preferably a good notebook cooler)

I don't think you can boot the computer from a keyboard (I don't think any device can) but I believe it could be possible from sleep. I know I can wake the computer by clicking with my mouse, but as I remember, I couldn't wake up the computer with my G15 keys. Maybe if there is a special sleep button that woud work.

As Gophn said, and as Steveninspokane experienced it, the screen will start to get hot because of the hard drive.
