Hey guyz, quick question since i can't get tech support through xoticpc on the phone about my laptop.

I was playing Eve Online when my computer gave me the blue screen of death and told me something happened to my graphics driver and that it was doing a memory dump.

Before I could read entirely what it said it restarted. Now everytime it loads all i get are a bunch of lines like I use to get in the 80's when i played on the NES.

Any ideas on what is going on and what i can do to trouble shoot it?

Firstly, how long have you had the notebook?

When was the last time you opened up the notebook to clean out the dust in the vents and fans?
    - if never, then you might have overheated the videocard to the point where its damaged... causing artifacting.

Have you been monitoring the temps (especially the GPU)?
    - if yes, then what was the temps when you your in-game?
    - if never, then that is not a great sign.

these are serious questions that most people with gaming notebooks do not think about until their system crashes or gets damaged.

also, after a crash, make sure you do a CHKDSK to find and fix any HDD errors that might have occurred during the crash.
    - go to Command Prompt ...
(for Vista, START > Programs > Accesories > right-click on "Command Prompt" and choose "Run as administrator")
    - then type: CHKDSK C: /F
    - press Y (for yes), and then restart the system for it to do the HDD check

Seriously though, open you notebook and check for:
    - dust clogs (in the vents usually)
    - check to see if the CPU and GPU heatsinks are secured
    - check to see if you need to re-apply thermal compound for the CPU and GPU

Notebook is 1 year 2 months old.

I have always kept the fan and airways clean

But i have never monitored the heat.

Right now i can't even load the laptop to run chkdsk

i checked all the heatsinks and all seem to be very secure.

what about the thermal compound? .... it might have dried up or cracked over that period of time.

    read this for monitoring temps

Wow! You were dead on. The paste was completly cracked, while the CPU paste still looks wet. Guess I learned the hard way.

    Lesson learned MONITOR YOUR TEMPS!!

Can anyone please tell me what to expect as far as price from a 9800m GT card? After google and ebay i only found 9800m gtx.

Yes i know i should just get the 9800m GTX now, but i don't see the price/performace ratio being worth it. I just want my 9800m GT back
