My NP8660 is working great... other than it issues a single beep 3 out of every 5 times I complete a full shut down.

I think it is the 9800M GT making a beep... I've researched a bit and on desktops there is speculation the GPU is not issued a shutdown notice by the Mobo in time... so the beep is a warning that there is no power being supplied to the card and then it turns off.

    Anyone have any idea?

Is anything showing up in the event logs, like a warning or an informational log entry, regarding the GPU or the graphics drivers?

My M570TU emits an occasional beep every once in a while.
It is random in nature, the computer can be idle or I'm web surfing, playing a game or in the middle of a defrag.

I have given up on it...

Ah well. Are you running _Vista? If so, I understand that the performance logging function is much, much more sophisticated than in XP, and can be customized to log what you want it to; any chance you feel like trying to set up a custom log?

Also, another source of information would be the Intel errata sheets for the data-sheets on the various Intel chips and chipsets you've got in there. I wouldn't be surprised if the Intel data sheet for the FSB chipset contained an erratum that's causing your problem. Just in case you're bored with sorting your sock drawer, again, the data sheets and errata can all be downloaded from Intel's website.

I just read in the NVidia forums that sometimes the mobo cuts off the power from the GPU before fully powering off the computer causing this beep... so nothing to worry about.

    Thanks for your help.

Did the post in question say why that resulted in a beep being generated? And, if I recall, this had to do with desktops, so are you confident that the same issue applies to notebooks?

Answering an earlier question... I'm running Windows XP SP3... the forum did not mention mobile GPUs... in fact it didn't even mention 9800M... just 8800GTS/GTX... however it explained how an 8000 series NVidia card...

... since the 9800M GT is an updated 8000 series card, I assumed this same technology applied.

It did say a beep was generated right before power off.

    Bad assumption?
