I just finished deciding on my specs and just wanted to know what you guys think....
WSXGA+ (1680x1050)
P9500 2.53Ghz w/6MB L2 Cache -25 watt
2,048MB DDR3 - 1 SODIMM (once these things come down in price, i'll upgrade to another stick of 2,048MB to make 4 GB)
100GB 7,200 RPM (gonna buy an external one later for movies/songs)
what do you guys think? the only thing i'm iffy on is that i'm not sure if i wanna spend an extra $35 on the P9500 as opposed to the P9400.
i know its only $35 but i'm kinda cheap like that lol![]()
oh yeah, i'll be placing my order through xotic pc in about 1 week exactly and does anyone know if they have Free Shipping for students or something?

I think the $35 dollar is well worth it because you ganna save more power and generat less heat.
Though, I think you should get more hard drive sapce, I don't think getting external hard drive is a good excuse for having a small in system drive. Since you will travel with your laptop and it would be awkward to carry around another hard drive.
You ganna have to ask xotic pc for yourself for the discounts. And yes they do offer discounts. -
you should get the 320 gb 5400rpm hard drive, people say is about the same or little less speed than the 200gb 7200rpm, its $25 more u get 3 times the space, tomshardware has some benches on these HDs
edit: here's the link: http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/hard-disks/average-read-transfer-performance,675.html
the one i wanted is pretty much fastest it will go (320gb 7200rpm 16mb) unless its an SSD of course, 320gb 5400 did pretty good on these benchmarks, its actually faster than 200gb 7200 in both read/write speed, the one u want 100gb 7200 did way below average in scoring so it isnt worth it ur spending a decent amount so get something future proof, as for cpu choice thats up to you whatever fits ur budget -
To this point all I've seen is speculation, and no real world data to show if there is a significant difference.
I agree with phoduma's opinion that its better to go with the bigger spaced, higher density, slower rpm drive. Other than that I think it is a good configuration. -
If you look at all the current owners who have posted their temperatures you'll see a significant difference in temperature between the 25- and 35-watt processors, ~10 degrees load.
I think that's worth $35 even if there are no power-savings. Which there should be, because the fan wouldn't have to run as aggressively. -
Thanks a lot guys, i check out the 320 5400 rpm benchmarks and you guys are right....i think i'm gonna go with it and thanks for the info on the CPU....
if it generates less heat then i think i'm definitely gonna spend the extra $35
thanks again guys,
i'll post some high def pics and a decent review of my specs once i get the lappy.
