    Hey everyone,

i am not familiar with the hardware side of the laptop, but just yesterday my laptop wouldn't turn on. The light would come on but then i don't hear the laptop running. And the screen stays black, no beep no nothing. like a silent laptop. i tried pressing F2 to go to the other screen but it wouldn't work. It also smells like burnt plastic from the bottom of it.

So today i went to get screwdrivers to open it up, and i found out the part next to the fan has burnt mark. So i was wondering which part that might be?( maybe the mother board) here are some picture attached.

I'm afraid you need to buy a new motherboard........
And also check if your CPU is still alive....

Motherboard + labor is $480, if you send it in to Sager.

You've never smelled or seen smoke? That wouldn't go unnoticed while it was burning that badly.

when i got home i just smell some plastic smell but i wasn't sure whats it from then found out my laptop wouldn't turn on. then found the burn mark lol

i will call them monday to see how much. Thanks for ur reply!

BTW: anyone know what might be the reason that cause this? i am clueless... i dont want it to happen again

Probably not much you could do about it period. Most Sager resellers offer 3 years labor covered so you'd have to pay for parts, so might save you a few bucks.

It could be your power adapter that did that... or the power at your school.

What are you going to do with the parts may I ask?

The machine being off when it happened it a pretty bad sign. You're looking at motherboard replacement, at least. Just that and a new PSU is pushing $600+.

Depending on the extent of damage, it may be more cost effect to sell your parts, then put that money towards the base P151HM.

Although I was able to somehow get an entire m860tu for about 400$.

You just never know what could turn up. Personally I would keep the case.
There was someone here who actually upgraded to the quad core motherboard, from a fully working normal one.
mattmcss was the one who sold it them, i think.

Also there is moerbe who did a bad BIOS flash...

If no one else does, I will by both of your broken motherboards, and solder your bios chip onto moerbes board :)

Hahah sager told me Motherboard is 400 and 80 for labor then shipping. So I think ~500 will do. I might just repair it and at the same time grab a new laptop.

If I decided to sell it I'll let you guys know haha. But I'm get a new laptop in the mean time, and repair it in the future.

I wouldn't even consider spending $500 on an M860TU, unless you really just can't scrape together $1200 for a brand new, faster machine.

Time to treat it like Old Yeller.

    hi guys,

I hope you can help me out a bit.
so, it cost $480 to have the motherboard replaced. but is there any possibility to just buy the motherboard(and do the replacing myself)? how much would that cost me?

    thanks for your help.

and is there any chance I can get one cheaper in europe?
i was thinking about the resellers like Eurocom/Schenker(mySN) and others - do they sell motherboards?
    what would a motherboard-repair cost?

I can get for you a new motherboard from Clevo Co. in Taiwan directly, it will cost you much less than form Sager. PM me with your location so i can give you a price estimation.
