Has it been fixed yet?
If i ordered one now would it have the same heat problem as the ones that were bought in august?
Thanks.

It never had heat problem. those you've seen were isolated cases.

Nirvana, you were banned?
Anyway, there are no heat issues with the m860tu. The recent orders of the laptop have had proper temperatures. Also, if you are concerned about the keyboard, its fine, despite an isolated topic created earlier today. -

I doubt he's banned. He has always been a productive member in these forums.
And, when I had my 8660, I thought it was hot, atleast more than I wanted it to be. my right wrist is just now starting to heal up, jk. but it was hot. -

steven, what did you eventually get? or are you still deciding?
Edit: Ah, just saw your topic. I voted in it. My take, its mostly what you want the laptop for. The m15x is definitely gonna be your mobile power station, especially with a smartbay battery if you so choose. However, the OCZ whitebook would be your true desktop replacement. If you go with the OCZ whitebook, don't be prepared to take it around too much, not even sure about the battery life but I doubt its better than the 5796.
My verdict: If the m860tu was not the perfect machine for me. I'd take the Whitebook. Because then I'd be conscious that I wouldn't be buying a notebook with a notation on portability. -

no, nothing really yet, got a lame asus to last me while im waiting, but its a tooss between the whitebook or the m15x.
-
EDIT: for what it's worth, I'd put my vote in for the OCZ whitebook; the .m15x just seems to have too much of a tarnished reputation.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
go for whitebook lol

I find it weird...the palm rest temp doesn't vary proportionaly to the HDD temp. Sometimes, when the HDD is idling at 54, the palm rest is barely warm. Now it idles at 51 and its warm...Maybe it have sometimes to do with the room temperature or something...
Anyway, no big heat problem for the NP8660. The hard drive would be a minor inconvinience if you compare the temp to other laptops. The only heat problem I can find is if you leave something close to the vent when gaming(indeed, the laptop cooked the stand of my Samsung 226BW and the nearby objects

Yeah by heat problem i was referring to the HDD.
So there was never a problem with it? Heard everyone complaining it was bad and someone even returned the laptop because of it.
Right now im on a Sony k-series vaio 6 year old laptop and it gets pretty hot all around. NP8660 wont be worse than it would it? -
mine idles at 63 GPU on desktop now with it conected to a 1920x1200 external display...
its prob ok yer...? in gaming 80max give or take so yer what ever.
the GPU was never a issue thou some people QQ about the HDD.. but 50c HDD is fine so far.
i want intel to release some new quadcore CPUs for my np8660 .... i want like a 3gig quad in it... the 2.5 atm is not clocked high enugh to be worth the upgrade over a duel.
Ill be playing WOTLK on my np8660 hardcore for the next year and a half prob.... i wonder how this laptop will fair.... with daily raids etc... hummm the TEST begins nov 13!...i love my m860tu its so sexy matches my iphone in trim ^_^

My HDD usually peaks around 62, 63. This is apparently still within the operating tolerances of the drive and I don't mind the heat emanating from the palmrest. Mostly because I type properly, like Gophn says, and mostly because I'm used to my old laptop on which the surface of the actual palm-rest would reach close to 50'C.

I've also ordered WOTLK.I'm still working on Burning Crusade though. I bought BC and resubscribed back in April for a 6-month membership but sent my ROCK laptop back and almost 6 months of the membership were wasted and my account was frozen. I have no idea if I can claim this time back, as it's almost the entire subsciption! I've signed up again when I received my Clevo from Kobalt and I'm now playing where I left off (in Terokkar Forest somewhere on the Dragonblight server - I play Horde). I still haven't levelled either of my two characters to 70 yet because (a) I'm playing solo purely for the quests due to not having the time to stay online and build up good game relationships and raid or team-up on a regular basis; and (b) I just can't be on it as much as most people who play it... I work and have a better social life than I used to. And this game isn't really played best when you haven't got time on your hands. They expect you to be on it 24/7 to reap better rewards, gear, etc. You an always tell the people who have lost their relationships to the game... they have the best gear and are in the largest guilds!! (So many of the blokes on there have told me their girlfriends left them because of WoW... but at least now they have that Epic sword they always wanted!).
The Death Knight class looks so cool... I'm very tempted.
Edit: Sorry, was meant to post this as a PM to Heathkid due to it being off-topic. -
The hard drives in this machine run on the warm to hot (under load, especially formatting/defrag/etc) if you don't know what you're doing, er, I mean, if you haven't made sure that you're running SATA drivers and aren't using a cooler. All previous Dells & Vaios (5 dells, including ones I've used but didn't own, and a recent Vaio I didn't own) that have had either Pentium 4 chips or a decent (x6xxGT+) card have run hotter - most notably way hotter CPUs & GPUS. A few would overheat and shut down.
-
Yeah my old K-series vaio has Pentium-4. the whole thing runs pretty hot.
But i keep a regular space fan tilted on it and it cools it pretty well.
Think that'd help with the NP8660 as well? lol. -
It's alright Gunsmith. But while you're talkin bout it. Whats WOTLK? The new WoW?
-
Happy gaming dude
My brother is a WOW addict, and I can`t stand him for it... -
Ohh. Yeah i tried the free trial of WoW and it didn't appeal to me that much
sorryy WoW lovers :]
