Everybody knows the hard drive on the NP8660 has been running pretty warm.. I wouldn't say too too hot though.
Today I just noticed though.. the area between the power button on the right speaker are almost scalding hot.. I could barely keep my hand on the area, has anybody else noticed this? What's there that's producing so much heat? It's right where the fan is? Is the fan producing more heat than it's reducing?

Thats where the GPU And CPU area is

I have noticed that, that's right above the fan exhaust, if you take the back panel off you'll see that that's the place where all the heatsinks etc. converge, and where the hot exhaust is blown out.
-
the right side where the power button to the Enter key is where the CPU and chipset heatsink lies.

70C is enough to give you the sensation of "hot"
However, if the temps are below the 80C threshold, you`re more than ok. -
Hi there Legacy
I don't know if you have had another "gaming" laptop before... So maybe you were not really aware of the heat these machines create.
We already had a panic rush, mostly unjustified, because of the HDD... I honestly hope we don't have another panic attack because of this.
As someone stated, and very well, that's the zone where all your hot hair is pumped out from the exhaust. As you know, air flows up once expeled, and can warm up that area of your laptop quite a lot. On my previous laptop, the m15x, I had pretty much the same (and you will have very similar things on pretty much every laptops out there, when put under lots of stres... this is, if they pack any powerful hardware).
So, don't worry... it's fine. If you want to keep your mind more at ease, maybe you should consider getting a laptop cooler... -
i notice this heat too, perhaps i shoul have had it in my review, but i know how people over-react here so i didnt. Its nothng to worry about.

How is your laptop holding up Helios?
-
I can confirm its hot between the power button and the speaker. Only thing that I don't like now is the fingerprint reader software that doesn't want to work with 32 bits browser
and even with 64 bits browser, its doesn't work.

Did you get the latest driver from the upek website, the ones on sager arent always the latest.
-
milcs how's your m860tu compare to m15x? I just bought a m5500 off eBay today. LOL
-
I haven't received the m860tu yet. I will try to make some comparison when I do...
Men, you buys a computer like... everyday!!! Are you swimming in it??? Share some with us... -
Btw i should be getting my xtreme 620 this week, so will post some benchmarks etc as well once it arrives. -
-
Anyhow it won't be sooner than the end of next week if everything goes well, my eta is around 24.09 but we'll see... -
There are plenty of people for comparison, but ioaniro certainly qualifies as the best one!!! He will have both at home.
MrDJ is also waiting for his, so as I am.
I'm sure it won't be as nice looking as the m15x, but well... You can't have it all! -
I would love to know the difference between these 2 for the heat and noise since there's is no numbers for the noise nor the hard drive temps. I started writing my full review
-
On the m15x the HDD runs cooler, at around 50ºC, peaking at around 55ºC when playing. (With a 120GB 7200rpm HDD).
On the other hand, both GPU and CPU temps are quite higher in the m15x. Also, the surface of the laptop (including the palmrest) gets hotter under use on the m15x (even if so many are complaining with the m860tu...).
NP8660 secondary heat issue?
