ok i need someone to tell me which test i need to run to figure iff my computer is in tip top shape. i already know that my Hdd is defective, but im have problems now that envolve me watching movies and have firefox freeze momentarily. its really annoying and its not just firefox its almost every program i run. i have also noticed alot of not responding errors and cashes. and also my graphics card isnt working as it should i noticing alot of lagg in almost every game i play, including crysis and merchanaries 2. for some reason when i run 3dmark06 i get around 11-20 fps for the first few test then when i get to the 4th test i get 0 fps? i beginning to think that there is alot wrong with my computer and may even be regretting my purchase.

Test your GPU with 3DMark, CPU with Prime95 (you may need to run more than one instance for multiple cores), HDD with HDTach. It sounds more like a CPU/GPU problem than an HDD one, oddly enough. What's wrong with your HDD?
-
idk for sure i posted my hdd results on this site a week ago and every said it was a defective hdd.
-
i also want to add that 3dmark keeps failing on the 3 or 4th test it goes to o fps per sec
-
Er... nothing's going to test OK, except ram (memtest86) with a bad HD running it.
-
ok thz ill keep that in mind i get a new hdd ontuesday ill try then. i also want to say i just tryed prime 95 and i froze my system
-
-
thanks ill keep what u said in mind and i might resurrect this thread later on this week when i get my new hdd.
-
-
o i didnt know that. maybe ill try it again. how ong should the 3dmark test take?
-
As stated above, if the hdd is defective hold on the tests till you get a new one. It's for sure screwing up all the performance from your computer.

chidesd, run HWmonitor to keep track of your temps, use Rivatuner to keep track of your GPU behaviour, run Orthos to stress your CPU and Furmark to stress your GPU. And... stop worrying. Your laptop (appart from your HDD) is working great.
Regarding the lag your experience, try and change the GPU drivers with drivers from L2VGO. I would recommend the 177.92 drivers with Dox's mod inf. The new ones seem to deliver a bit less of performance.
Good luck and, as I said, don't worry too much. Just enjoy the laptop... -
wow thanks for all the info milcs. but one thing whats is L2VgO. i goggled it and came up with nothing.
Edit nm i found out what it meant http://laptopvideo2go.com/ thanks for the info -
There you go:
Modified inf- http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=19675&st=0&start=0
I would recommend getting the 177.92 drivers for your specific OS.
Then, download from here: http://laptopvideo2go.com/drivers
The 177.92 driver for your specific OS.
Next, decompress both files into the desktop (or whatever) and copy the modified inf file on the folder of the 1st file you downloaded into the folder of the driver pack. You will copy over the original inf file. Then, just install the drivers. Easyyyyyyyyy (UNINSTALL the old drivers first).
It will give you an increase in performance. -
have you tried to run a HD error check using HD Tune
ignore point 2 & 3 (that was for another problem)
click on error scan and click start. this will take quite a while.
NP8660 tests?
