I can get into the BIOS (I think that is what I am in, it says "Phoenix SecureCore (tm) Setup Utility"!) by pressing F2 during boot up.
However, I can not find a way to change the hard drive to AHCI mode anywhere. In fact, I can't do much of anything in the BIOS, not a lot of options. (which may be a blessing in disguise!)
That being said, I was going to follow this guide to try and find a way to get Intel Matrix Storage Manager to work. I have had no luck getting it to install any other way so far.![]()
Am I missing some hidden screen or option in the BIOS? Is there a better way to go about doing this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

there is an entry in the bios that says something like OS : xp, change xp to vista then you will be in ahci but you will get a bsod if matrix storage is not installed correctly so put it back to xp

Thanks Sp3ctrum!
I think it worked.... sort of. I was able to change the OS in the BIOS and I think I installed the new driver correctly... maybe.
In the Device Manager, under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, there is now only one item listed (Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller) where there used to be six items!!! Is that normal or did I just lose a bunch of important stuff?!
Not to mention I ran HD Tach and the HDD is actually slower than it was before!!
HD Tune comparisons:
HD Tune_AHCI vs. HD Tune Original
This is probably why newbies shouldn't go messing around with too much stuff!

That said, that is more of a speed drop than I would have expected. Did you run it multiple times? I would try and run it a few more times to confirm the results.
BTW: Having only one entry for AHCI in device manager is a-ok -
Phew, thanks dalingrin, that is good to hear on the lone entry!
I will try a few more runs with HD Tune and see if it improves at all. My main reason for doing this was to try and lower the operating temperature for the HDD at idle and under load. So far, I have not noticed much of an improvement. Maybe 1° C. (those HDTune temps are not comparable) Hopefully that will improve with more testing as well.
Thanks again!
