Hello again!
I plan on ordering the NP8662 tonight but I have one more question I'd like to ask before proceeding. I really don't want to spend the extra crash on upgrading the CPU beyond the default P8700 @ 2.53Ghz (that's still more powerful than my current desktop), but I want to make sure this isn't a mistake. Will that level processor be a big bottleneck to the overall performance of the machine with the 260m?
Side-question: For laptop owners who purchased a machine from XoticPC, about how long did it take for your computer to ship/arrive from the time you placed the order?
Thanks ahead!

The p8700 will be a bottleneck but if u r going to use just for internet and all that stuff i wouldnt worry about changing the cpu
-
I wouldn't be getting the NP8662 if I was just going to be using it for internet and stuff ;-)
How much of a bottleneck? What would you recommend instead?
The reason I'm holding off on something higher is that I plan on upgrading to a quad in a couple years anyways, along with a SSD when the prices drop. -
I wouldn't worry too much about the CPU being the system bottleneck. If you're planning on gaming, GPU is the most important component.
If you're planning on rendering, coding/compiling, etc, I'd worry about upgrading the processor to something with a little more cache and speed.
You can always upgrade your CPU later on. However, if you're really worried about processing power, then you should just upgrade when ordering to put your mind at ease.
I have ordered an NP8662 earlier today myself with the default processor. I'm currently at Step 2 (send out to be customized, tested). -
Thanks for the advice. I'm not concerned about rendering, perhaps a little compiling for schoolwork but I don't think anything too serious.
I guess I'll stick with the default then! -

Yep, took me around 2 weeks to get my laptop from Xotic

Yeah, i wonder if i ever have problems i can just go to the place and drop it off instead of shipping

P8700 is a fine CPU, I'm just not a fan of the 3MB cache. If I were you I would consider the P9700 or Q9000. T9900 is nice, but overpriced and unnecessary. Maybe even an aftermarket Q9100 or Q9200.

P8700 is not a bottleneck... It will be sufficient for many years to come, just not as long as say, P9700.

can add to the question: would upgrading the cpu void the warranty to jsut not cover that upgraded cpu. im thinking of just getting teh stock processor also how much stuff does it take to bog it down. I like to multi task as in play vid games as i browse internet or i.m.

did not meant o hijack just to ask the same question without making a new thread. -
Haha and another question: Is the Q9200 going to be widely available at some point? I don't really see it much. That's the chip Id go with when I upgrade in a couple years...

I'm watching this thread like a hawk as I have the same plans for the same config I ordered a week ago.

In Dual Core optimised games, my 2.0 Ghz Q9000 still manages to pull in frames of 60-100 in 3D intensive games. -
I ordered mine on July 16th. I got mine yesterday. Works great i think.
