I have a Sager NP8662 dual booting Windows and Linux. When Im at home I typically use my laptop on my desk with an external monitor and the lid closed. The monitor works perfect with the laptop, except while the laptop is booting. When booting, the monitor is black and the boot menu, post screen, boot splash for Windows/Linux, etc do not display on the external monitor. As a result, in order for me to select the OS I want in my boot screen, or if I need to enter the BIOS, etc I need to make sure I have the laptop screen open to view the choices.

Is there a way around this to have the entire boot process (boot menu, etc) display on the external monitor so I dont have to open the laptop when I need to switch OS or something?

    Thanks!

It is not generally a good idea to run high power laptops with the displays closed anyway - they tend to use the keyboard area as an air intake/heatsink. I'd check how hot it was getting in the keyboard/display area when running if I were you as you could end up killing the LCD screen or even the laptop.

Thanks for that advice, I didnt know that. I guess Ill just set the laptop next to my monitor and use the FN key to just display on the external monitor then. That may be tight on my desk though.

If heat werent an issue, would there be a way to do that?
