Hey guys, i own an asus g51vx rx05 which has a gtx 260m gpu just like the sager np8662 but i was wondering why exactly the sager np8662 doesnt suffer from crazy GPU overheating like my asus g51? My asus can get temps up to 91c yet i heard the np8662 has max temps in the 70s and low 80s. Does it have to do with the heat sink build or something?

It has to do with Clevo being much better than Asus designing their laptops. :)

I remember on the xotic customizations of the asus51 that it doesn't come with artic5 cooling as a default, this might why.

Asus cut a lot of corners when building the G51. The GPU shares the heatsink with the CPU and the northbridge. Also the heatsink itself is by far less robust compared to the M860TU heatsink. To add to this, the GTX 260M in the G51 is stripped compared to the GTX 260M on the M860TU. The G51's GPU is clocked at 500/1250/800 @ 0.95v while the M860TU's GPU is clocked at 550/1375/800 @ 1v.

I agree. This is a very true statement.

Also, the G51 has room for two HDD's, this likely takes away from space that could be used for a larger heatsink or to enhance airflow.

The G51 is budget friendly, and that's it in a nutshell.

One thing I'll say in defense of the G51 is that the bottom of the notebook stays quite cool. From a usability standpoint, that's fairly critical.

As far as "crazy overheating issues" go, I pretty much agree on that one.I've never seen any component hit 97C and live - before this notebook. I'm concerned about longevity, but not extremely concerned.

But, bottom line, the NP8662/M860TU is a better machine. It just costs a fair bit more. If you have the budget, that's what I'd get.

I got the G51VX-RX05 Best Buy special because I could easily return it.

its because of the laptop design..
you may go for diamond heatsinks aswell if you think your laptop is overheating

    They make those?

And as every single Clevo/Sager user has said, the Clevo is just better designed than the G51. There is some give/take in order to get those cooler temperatures, but there you go.

Well what would u guys consider overheating? My speedfan says that my comp reaches at max around 75C, but that doesnt happen too often. Is that considered overheating?

    75*C is not considered overheating.

If you buy from xoticpc, the stock asus g51 costs more then the stock sager np8662.

if the temp shoots up to 85+ then you can start worrying...
which in my case....only happened once when i accidentally forget to shutdown the laptop and put it into my bag..
it shoots up really high even , around 80~.. and the internals gets really hot(especially the aluminium part)
