Hey, I'm considering getting the system shown below from Power Notebooks. I pretty set on all the hardware options, but the thing I'm iffy on is the warranty. I'm not sure if I want to get the 1yr parts, 3 years service that it comes with or if I should upgrade to 2 or 3 years parts and service. Obviously 3 years would be best, but is it really worth the extra $250? So what would you recommend and why?

you can add the warranty later. you have 90 days from the day you place order, to buy additional warranty.
get the machine first, if you felt in love with it and want to keep it as long as possible, you can go ahead and buy warranty.
If you are planning on selling it pretty soon, i dont think buying additional warranty will bring you much of re-sell advantages since it will be more expensive.
BTW, you can participate on Gophn's draw for the Vista liecense so you save more $. Link here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=368179&page=55#giveaway
Good luck and enjoy. -
you should contact Powernotebooks, they would be able to give you a better idea about the warranty.
...but I covered if you would need an extended warranty at the end of the Clevo Guide -
I guess better questions would be:
How likely am I to need the extra 2 years of parts warranty?
If a component does fail, what is it most likely to be and what sort of price range would I be looking at to fix it myself? -
Answer to the second part of your question is: the hard drive; depending on what you get, it could cost from $50 to $150 to DIY replacement.
