hello, dont know if this the best place to say this but since i got the sager am gonna put it here.

i bought a Windows 7 Home Premium and i tried to upgrade my laptop, everything went well but, when its in the last step at about 67%, the PC restart and after that i get a blue Screen saying error, then i get my vista restored ( your upgrade was not success, restoring your previous version of Windows ).

so, downloaded the " Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor " from Microsoft, sorted 2 issues that may affect my upgrade " Diablo 2 and Cyber Link DVD suite ", i uninstalled Diablo 2 and do nothing for the Cyber Link ( dont think this well affect really ) and tried again same happens, blue screen after restart at 67%.

dont know if i did any thing wrong but this my 1st time to change my OS, never did this before.

Am trying to run the 64-bit version, since my laptop runing 64-bit.
    heres my system Configuration :

    - Sager NP8662 ( BIOS Phoenix 1.102.16S LS2, 13/5/2009 )
    - Windows Vista 64-bit SP1 Build 6001 Home Premium
    - intel core 2 due P9700 2.80 GHZ
    - 4GB memory RAM
    - 320GB Hdd ( 111GB free ) 7400 RPM
    - nVidia GTX 260

so i think am doing every thing well, i follow every step at the instruction book but 3 times now and stopping at same place, Last Step at 67%.

so, please if any 1 here have this problem before or got any experience in these thing help me please :D

    thanks in advance

What is Cyber Link DVD exactly? Is it a virtual dvd station software, like Daemon Tools? If that is the case, it may very well be the problem, as I had a similar problem with my Daemon.

Uninstall it, run CCleaner registry cleaner, and try again. If all fails, I'm afraid you will have to do a clean install.

firstly it might be a silly question but have you got vista service pack 1 installed. if not this will cause an error loading 7.
for some reason my windows update didnt install service pack one and i had to download it manually from microsoft. auto update was about 58mb but the manual download is well over 400mb so expect it to take about 2-3 hours.
cyberlink is a burning studio just like nero.

i had cyberlink loaded as well. loading 7 enterprise (works multi version) its saved my old operating system and all the programs and software in a folder called windows.old on my c drive. i havnt tried loading cyberlink again yet but i cant see that being the problem as i didny get any errors.
ill try loading it in a n hour or so and report back.

hello MrDJ, yes am running in Service Pack 1 Build 6001.

    well my new report is:

i uninstall the Cyberlink and did the clean after that, i started the Windows 7 setup again and Nothing changed! every thing is same, at 67% in Transfering step the pc restart and and blue-screen error show up then restoring my previous Windows Vista.

so what u think guys? what should i do now ? dont have any idea about these things and this my 1st time installing a windows, i dont feel i did any thing wrong.

do u think i should Delete every software i downloaded in the PC ? because the Transfering programs and sitting step take too long, i got many huge games installed already so this maybe is the problem ?

    thanks a lot.

If you allready are thinking about uninstalling a lot of programs, then a clean install would be a better choice, I think. When W7 asks, choose "custom" install, and then clean install. Remember that you then will lose every program that is allready on your hard drive.

ok, now i will uninstall the games i have at the moment and try to upgrade again, maby that what cues the problem.

i will report what i get after, if this didnt work then that keep the " Clean install " option left.

    thanks ReDuNZL

well thats a strange one almehairi13.
im not an expert at all but its strange its getting stuck at 67%

download this bit of free software called WHO CRASHED and see if that will give you an idea of why you got the bsod.

    glad you got it sorted.
i thought if you done an upgrade a folder for windows.old would be saved on your c drive but if you done a clean install it was like a reformat and would wipe everything. i might be wrong on this though.

to go to windows.old > my computer >c drive >find folder windows.old > program files > find program you want and open folder and try clicking install or setup. hopefully this should install the old program into windows 7 if it is compatable.
    good luck.

Upgrading from Vista to 7 does not leave a Windows.old folder - clean install does.
Upgrading, I just got a 700+ Mb folder with "leftovers". As there was nothing in it I needed, I deleted it.
