So after reading tons of reviews and tests of the NP8662, ive decided that its the laptop for me.
But now im having trouble deciding where to purchase it from.
The two dealers that comes to mind are Xoticpc ( http://www.xoticpc.com) or Notebookguru ( http://www.notebookguru.de/en).
With similar specs and 3 years of Warranty (parts and labor) the numbers come in at :
Xotic : $1,920.00
Notebookguru : $2142.17
Now the problem is that I live in Denmark (small scandinavian country) and I have to pay 25 % vat in top of the Xotic price, as well as shipping costs.
That makes the Xotic price soar to : $2,678.00.
The Notebookguru price with shipping and vat is : $2249.00
Now ive only heard positive things about Xotic, and they have been very helpfull already answering my questions. But ive never heard of Notebookguru.
So my question is, am I better off ordering from Xotic (since their reputation is pretty much flawless) or am I just as good off ordering from Notebookguru?
All help/input is appreciated, thanks in advance.
-
xotic imo.
but im from US.....
they really do have great service tho. -
As a very satisfied overseas customer, I'd definitely recommend XoticPC! Totally the way to go!
-
XoticPC was absolutely great to me. Helped me every step with ordering made some odd requests I had work for me. I couldn't recommend them higher
-
im in the uk but from feedback alone on here i would defo go with xoticpc

I live in Belgium and I mailed notebookguru.de with a question regarding their warranty and got a reply within 24 hours. Their prices are the best in Europe I've found and they offer all off the same options as every other Clevo reseller. The only downside is (just as with xoticpc, which I mailed aswell) that incase of a breakdown you have to pay for shipping your notebook to them. (they pay for sending it back to you after the repairs)
Personnally I (will) would go with notebookguru.de. -
Going for Xotic (although, it definately has good reviews), does not make that much of a (strategical) sense. You live in Europe, not in the US. In the eventuality something fails, I think you agree it does not make that much sense to send the laptop back and forth across an entire Ocean.
You have plenty of Clevo resellers in Europe: Kobalt in the UK (that gives pan-european warranty and door to door delivery (and collection); Notebookguru in Germany, just to name some...
Good luck with your choice. -
If you were in the US, I'd recommend Xotic as well. However, a $400 difference is pretty substantial. I would recommend finding a local merchant who is more known than Notebook Guru...I'd definitely advise against purchasing from them if you've never heard of them. But try to find an alternative.

Living in Sweden, I would say Notebookguru. They have among the best prices in Europe and the support is good. I´m about to order an M860TU (Guru Fire) myself in a couple of weeks.
Reviews and impressions of Notebookguru I´ve read are really good. Try googling Guru Fire and see what pops up. -
I can vouch for XoticPC, but considering you are in Europe, Notebookguru.de isn't a bad idea at all. I've heard decent things about them, plus there are a fair number of other Clevo resellers in Europe. You've got Kobalt, Rock, Novatach, and a quite a few others.
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Not all of them are as genuine as Kobalt and friends. There are some lemon European resellers like Inforlandia and Clevo.fr. The same goes for us here in North America. We have PCMW to put up with.
-
Probably not the cheapest (although considering the value of the pound, it is actually a pretty decent price), but for sure the best... Kobalt! I would recommend them through and through and then... I would recommend them again. If you want a service were you will get to know the people you deal with and have a very personalized service, Kobalt is def worth to give it a look.
Check their website and forum... -
Kobalt dosnt look too shabby either.
Will have to give them another look, pricewise its almost identical to Notebookguru.
And thanks for the replys, I really appreciate it)

I also came down to Notebookguru and Kobalt when comparing prices.
You can also try www.mysn.de (or clevo.de, it will redirect you there).
There is also Nexoc Germany which seems to be more like a wholesale distributor to the other European resellers. You will not find any prices on their website so if you have to ask them for a personal quote, or you can configure here:
http://www.csv-systemhaus.de/produc...ore-2-Duo-P8800-320GB-2048MB-DVD-RW-WLan.html
There is also PCSystems-EvolutionX which sells Clevo systems on their site and on eBay (barebones):
http://cgi.ebay.de/15-4-CLEVO-M860T...ryZ28837QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Some say that calling them may save you some euros even from their eBay prices.
I think that Kobalt and Nexoc are Clevo rebranding companies, much like Sager in US, while the others may be indirect local resellers such as XoticPC in US.
I guess that most of these resellers are outsourcing the warranty to other shops but I cannot be 100% certain. -
These being said, you have to be aware that all these resellers have Non Disclosure Agreements (NDA) with Clevo when they are about to launch new products.
Such time is being very close at least with respect to the Intel mobile Nehalem processors. The new cpu-z tool (1.52) has already added support for i3 and i5, so the launch of the new architecture cpu's is very close, e.g. September, and laptops with them could be ready for the Windows 7 launch date.
Asus has already retired the W90 system as well as MSI did with some of their laptops from newegg.com site (most notable GX620). Therefore, something is in the air and if you wait 1-2 more months you will get a better proof product.
Myself, I was waiting for much more than the mobile Nehalem processors (i7 was already in D900F): SATA-600, USB 3.0, PCIe 3.0, DirectX11 GPUs with the mobile GT300 probably coming in late 2010. All these new advances will come during 2010, though too slow for me, but if you already have a decent system you can wait 1-2 more months for a better proof system.
I didn't, so I grabbed a D901C deal and will not fork my money until the real GT300M more into play. -
Clevo W860CU, the successor for M860TU, will be officially launched in early October. This is confirmed information.

You can check pctorque too.

Or Deviltech.

Living in Europe, i don't see any reason for buying from States ... unless you get it cheaper from US. Prizes without taxes are better in States but those darn taxes added normally they end up being more expensive and of course you have to think about the unlucky situation that something goes wrong ... the shiiping costs back to states are not that cheap
European resellers i can recommend: Deviltech / mySN Schenker / Notebookguru / Kobalt ... they are all reliable distributors, so i would just choose the one where i can get the same machine for cheapest -
It does not make sense to buy from US. i do not know much about notebookguru, but I know kobalt gives a 3 years warranty. In case of break they pay for both shipping. Before they send the systems out they test them so that there are no problems later. The pound euro rate is quite low now and it make sense to buy from UK, but I do not know about Danish krowns.

Well to put in my two cents, XoticPC has been a dream of a reseller for international people. They were quick and easy to go through, the only-us-credit-card thing was a pain but their bank wires were fast to clear and i got my system 4 days after they received payment (yes, that means I, as an INTERNATIONAL USER, got the lappy in my sig on thursday morning after they received payment at 2pm on the monday afternoon of that same week)
But the price is something to kill for though, that's a ton of extra cash. I suggest to you listen to these people for a good reseller of notebooks around europe, as I trust this site's feedback immensely. If you find a good one then great. If you choose to go with Xotic, just make sure you take your warranty through them and not through Sager. Sager is a bit of a hassle when dealing with warranties as I have just learnt first hand. -
I'm currently trying to buy a NP8662 off Xotic.
I screwed up on my order. Payed through Paypal, my address wasn't confirmed (can only confirm addresses when you have a US account on Paypal which I don't, thought it was OK as I had already asked Xotic about the shipping address I was going to use and they gave me an OK). Xotic refunded the money to me. Paypal awknowledged the refund and said the money would appear on my account shortly. It's been almost a week now and my paypal account balance is still $0.00 so I'm getting a bit nervous.
Before this incident, XoticPC were very helpful answering my questions. However after this mishap, I asked them for the wire transfer info to try ordering that way, and they haven't answered my email (sent last friday, the 11th). Either they don't want me anymore as a customer, or my rep is on vacation, I wish I knew.
If anyone from Xotic sees this, my order is No. 13284. After not receiving a reply for so long, I'm considering cancelling the order and going with someone else (or maybe even waiting for the W860CU). I'm still pretty nervous about my money not showing up on paypal (which I'm sure it's their fault since they did send me a mail telling me Xotic had refunded it, and Xotic confirmed it).
With all the great help Xotic offered me before, and them now ignoring me, a bad taste is beginning to grow on my mouth. Hope this gets resolved soon as even though things haven't gone as I wished, I can't ignore all the recommendations I got for Xotic and the great experiences people here talk about. I really wish to fulfill my order with them, but I'm sure I won't feel the same way too long if this goes on. -
Wish ya luck on this! Let us know how things turn out! -
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
rsm86 you are welcome to PM me and I can review this with you. I have checked all your emails and we have not received a email from you since 9/9 unless you sent it from another address?
-
Ok this must be interesting to the OP: See how fast Justin responded to my message. It hasn't even been 20 minutes and I believe it's off their office hours!
Regarding the email, I sent it from the same address, directly to my rep. I provided Justin with a screenshot of my gmail account as it appears when it was sent, but I won't repost it here since I'm sure it's a misunderstanding with my rep, or he may have accidentally overlooked it and no need to have his name out in the open.
The important thing here is, Justin contacted me via PM and sent me the Wire transfer information, for which I'm very grateful.
I'll be sure to complete my order as soon as I can. It took me a long time to save up for the laptop, and since the money isn't still back on my paypal, I'll have someone lend me the money in the meantime.
Thanks for your words Ultima. I'm definitely making some calls and sending some mails to paypal to see what's up. -
you be welcome, though I highly doubt I helped much since Justin was the one who replied lol. If I did help in some way then you're welcome hehe
-
I got a question about Xoticpc payment style. Lets say i just placed an order.( i will be paying through mail).
Now once i place the order i must wait for them to get back to me before we start talking about the way i will pay right?
I'm kinda of confused about this.
Damn it, double post so sry everyone. -
In my case, we're changing my payment method and arranging it over email because of the situation I described above. When using a Wire transfer, you specify that on the website, and then you wait until they get back to you with the Wire Transfer information. You then proceed to do the wire transfer, and notify them via email when it's complete. -
-
I think so. I'd suppose it was automated so you'd receive it right then, but I think you're better off mailing them and asking the source directly.
Best of luck. Hopefully both of us will be enjoying our new sagers soon!
-
Now since Canadian shipping takes away broke fees. I guess the only other fee i worry about is pst and gst which i pay when it arrives? If so how much would that be? -
i couldn't tell you friend, I live in trinidad lol
-
Costa Rica here, so no idea either sorry.
UPDATE on my Paypal Issue:
The refund finally arrived! Xotic were great, they promptly refunded the money to me, but for some reason Paypal didn't get their stuff done until today. I open up "my transactions" and Xotic's refund appears as having been done on Sept 11th, and now on Sept 16th there's a new line saying the credit has been returned to my credit card! (The weird thing is that after I placed my original payment on Sept 8th, there was NOTHING on my paypal about the refund or anything. Both Sept 11th and 16th events showed up just today.
Wire transfer here I go! Sager 8662 yay! -
congratulationz! Hope you enjoy your new machine! XD
NP8662 from Xotic or Notebookguru?
