It happens in all games I've played so far. For a fraction of a second both the video and sound lags..sometimes it happens every few minutes, sometimes it never happens. Any solutions?

What video driver versions do you have installed? What CPU? What games have you played? What OS do you have? What game settings?

    Check your event logs (Application/System)...

CP > Admin Tools > Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Applications

    Tried various settings.

The ones that came with the lp.

    Yes.

DL'ed it but don't know how to use it.

    CPU: P9600

    OS: XP SP3

    Games played:
    Stepmania
    Crazy Machines 2(the bundled game)
    TES4: Oblivion
    Unreal Tournament 3
    Mass Effect
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic

I see a few warnings and errors here and there. I'm sure most of them are due to careless installation.(namely XP and oblivion)

You burn the .iso file on a CD. Then boot from it, with the CD drive as the first boot-up priority. Maybe it's possibly with a USB stick also, I don't know, I did it back in the floppy disk days.

I noticed lag in games where there shouldn't have been when I first got my NP8662 but it disappeared after I changed the Nvidia Control panel settings to high performance (default settings are quality which is slower) and I updated the stock graphics drivers to official 185.5 drivers. Also make sure that you aren't in any power saving modes.

I also updated my audio drivers.

If you stay on the same audio and graphics drivers that you get when you first receive your laptop, they will be outdated and might not perform as well as the newer ones.

Will try it and report. Thanks.

Downloading 185.85 for video driver. But where do I get the audio driver?

As far as I could find, RealTek High Definition Audio Drivers 2.24 were the latest but I don't remember exactly where I downloaded them. I think it was RealTeks homepage.

Have you checked your temperatures? My graphics stuttered on an older M860TU based laptop. I checked the temps and my GPU was running at up to 96C (!) probably due to the poor job that the reseller did on putting the laptop together. That shouldn't effect your sound, but maybe your CPU is overheating?

With the video and sound lagging at the same time, that would mean that the actual system is getting bogged down, possibly due to overheating.

Get some compressed air and clean out the vents. Also, even though its core 2 duo, ensure there are no extremely processor intensive tasks going on in the background.

Updated the drivers. It now seems like only the audio is stuttering.

I'm sure it's not overheating. Currently I'm playing Oblivion at the lowest settings possible and it still happens(actually very often). Turned on the cooler as well, and the laptop is not even warm.

Sure sounds like a background task. Are you sure nothing else is running?

Anything else that's running is AVG, steam, and (occasionally) firefox.

Here's the result while running the game:

Did you try a special program for viewing and killing running processes? Sometimes a more thorough check is needed. The names of these programs escape me, especially a good free one, but I found this:
http://www.drk.com.ar/daphne.php - it's freeware and seems fine for what it does. Maybe someone here can suggest another program..
I would run such a program, this or another alike to it, and then go through all the running processes, googl'ing them.

What did the Memtest show, btw?
