I'm looking for a portable gaming laptop and trying to decide between these two laptops. They seem pretty similar: they weigh about the same (so they are about equal in portability), have 2 hour battery life, and can fluently run crysis on very high settings. The advantage of the 725 is the 17" screen, and 8662 has better build quality.
    Which is best?

The 725 has the crappiest keyboard I have ever seen on a laptop, and the customer service by MSI is probably much worse than that of the Sager resellers... BUT, the MSI has a 17" matte screen (USA), which is something no Clevo 17" model has right now. Also, It has an ATI GPU, In case you prefer that one over nvidia. Hmm... It also has 4 speakers and a sub.

I think the 8662 is better, just because of the keyboards.

I wouldn't say having a 17" screen is advantage...as a matter of fact, that is a downside for some potential buyers who wants portability. This is what makes the NP8662 so special. Equal power in a smaller package. I have never owned the GT725 before but this below shows the differences from a collective of users information.

    Portability - NP8662 > GT725 15" vs 17"
Build Quality- NP8662 > GT725 Hands down and not just talking about the bad keyboard on the GT725

Performance- NP8662 = GT725 More or less the same depends on how the GTX 260m plays out. NP8662 support quad cores and are on the newest intel platform..I
don't believe GT725 even have either (I could be wrong)

I dont know which is better, but my np8660 build quality wasnt perfect either. I actually just ordered the gt725 myself.
The gt725 is actually lighter than the np8662 by .1 lbs or something small, the gt725 is thinner, and only half an inch longer. The 8662 is a large 15" and the gt725 is a small 17".

Size is neglible here really, and the gt725 has a bigger screen so that is a plus to me. On my 8660 I did squint occasionally on some text, as 1680x1050 was small on the screen at times, and I'm 29 so not losing my eyesight quite yet.

And if they both get the same scores in 3dmark and have similar performance, why not try the gt725 for a few hundred less?

I chose the 8662 over the GT725 because of Quad core support.

I certainly would, but the keyboard is Oh so horrible! I use the right shift key a lot, and on GT725 it is very small. Im already having trouble pressing the shift key on my P-7811 FX, which is actually bigger than that of the GT725...... Soooo, if you dont have any problems with the keyboard, I dont see why would you not get the GT725.

The GT725 also has quad core support.

And yeah, I agree with the GT725 keyboard layout. The keys are way too small and I often hit keys that I don't want to hit. The only plus side of the keyboard over the NP8662 is the fact that it has a full number pad.

I tend to prefer 15 inches over 17 inches. and performance being the same, id get the 15 inches. If you are not like me, and dont care about the size, the GT725 is perfect as well, and you can save some bucks with it

so... my gt725 is going back... after I opened it and used it for a while, I decided the np8660 I had just felt much better. The keyboard didnt always register every key I typed, the shift key did bother me, and to me the orange and silver look worse in person.

My biggest gripe was that it looks and feels huge, even gigantic. The np8660 was large, but this feels a little too large. ehh.. either way, it scored a 9400 stock 3dmark, then with drivers and ati overclock it got 10450, not bad, but also what a np8662 gets stock I believe.

Either way, its a nice laptop, but a hair too big for me (doesnt fir in my travel friendly bag)

Yeah I would get the NP8662. Even though the screen is smaller with a lower res, you would probably want to play crysis on the lower resolution anyway for smoother gameplay. MSI's build quality is pretty cheap too, I was considering the GT925, but heard some reviews about horrible screen bleeding and faulty gpus. The NP8662 is also currently the fastest 15inch notebook gpu wise so its something to brag about. It looks pretty sick too, and I think the GT725 is pretty ugly with the orange trim.

they have a higher res screen if you want it. I have the high res screen and it is fantastic. The high res screen is also matte which is fantastic.
