Hi. I am newbie in the forum so dont beat me![]()
I am a very happy fresh owner of Sager NP8760. I really love it. Everything works well (so far). I have only one problem and I hope somebody can help me.
My laptop is playing only from two speakers. It has a subwoofer and four speakers but yet it can play only from 2 beside the screen. I have tried different settings, update'ing the driver didnt help as well. I am using Win7 x64. Any ideas please ? Thank you in advance.

just want to configure the speakers. i have np8760 4.1 built in speakers. i have tried different configurations and only 2 speakers seem to be working (leaving 2 other and subwoofer dead) thank you

Hi Arkadiusz **** , this model has 4.1 speakers built in. However, the 4.1 speakers are connected to 2-channel stereo output. That is why when you select the Quadratic configuration. The two rear speakers have to sound.
If you connect an external 5.1 speaker system to this computer, you will have the 5.1 surround sound.
heh
thats no answer -
Wow, that's a terrible answer. It doesn't even make grammatical sense, much less technical sense.
-
I'm not even convinced there is anything under the grills to the left and right of the keyboard.
-
According to the service manual there should be.
-
For real. Switch the balance to just the right or left. Then cover the top speaker and notice a significant difference. Do the same with the side speaker and you'll notice no change. Covering them both sounds exactly the same as just covering the top. This would not be the case even if the side speakers were just playing mids.

I don't have the W870, so can't check mine...
If you are confident with disassembly, then check to see if there are any problems with the wiring, if not call your reseller. -
My speakers give no sound whatsoever. I will try to disassemble it tommorow, but I think that they will be connected. After googling alot about it - the owners of Toshiba X305 the same problem on Win7 x64. Somebody said that its the problem with the drivers.
I just wanna ask W870CU owners - are all you speakers working in Windows 7 64-bit ? (4 speakers and sub) ? thanks for replies -
I don't think it's a driver issue. I'm using generic drivers that Windows auto installs and it's still an issue.
-
I just opened up the laptop and looked inside. The speakers are there and they are connected.
@jeff0078 is your subwoofer and other 2 speakers working ? -
just checking the user manual in specifications it says there are only 2 speakers in the 860:
High Definition Audio Compliant Interface
3D Stereo Enhanced Sound System
S/PDIF Digital Output
Built-In Microphone
For Model A Computers:860
2 * Built-In Speakers
For Model B Computers: 870
4 * Built-In Speakers (Supporting 2
Channel Stereo)
1 * Subwoofer
and the service manual says this:
High Definition Audio Compliant Interface
3D Stereo Enhanced Sound System
S/PDIF Digital Output
Built-In Microphone
For W860CU
2 * Built-In Speakers
For W870CU
5 * Built-In Speakers (Supporting 2 Channel
Stereo) -

Wait, so when you hit the "test" button in the Realtek Speakers tab, it plays a sound for all 5 speakers?
In that case, I've got the same problem as you other guys. I even posted about the weakness of the sound from mine in the 8760 Official Owner's Thread a while back, but everyone else said speakers were fine so I didn't pay any more attention. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Histidine. If you want to raise the output volume for your speakers, you can setup your Realtek driver in 5.1 config and juke up the gain in room correction under enhancements.
-
Thanks Soviet, that does get things going a bit more. The speaks have been putting out sufficient volume for *most* applications, but I've got a few programs and recordings that like to run a little quiet, and they've been a bit hard to hear even on max volume.
Still, I'd like to at least get the subwoofer going. Not hugely important (and probably wouldn't make an outrageous difference), but I feel a little cheated if it's just going to sit there and not make noise. -
@babyhemi the pictures dissapeared :/
i have tried various 5.1 configuration - with no luck as well.
Keep it coming guysthanks for the answers

I put in your settings exactly, and I don't get sound from the subwoofer or the bottom two L/R speakers.
-
@babyhemi thank you ! it seems to be working now. the side speakers are very quiet and i can hear the subwoofer playing. thank you
@Histidine it worked for me. are you using windows 7 x64 as well ? and which driver version -
Yep, 64-bit Windows 7. Realtek driver version 6.0.1.5910.
-
I don't have the same laptop but I can confirm the that the test doesn't use all 4 speakers. My 1722 only used 2 speakers in windows 7. After I installed xp last night to get bf2142 to work, all 4 speakers started working. I'll test windows 7 on my 9262 tomorrow when I get to work.
-
used the suggested settings and 5 speakers do not play on windows 7.
in the RealTek audio test, the speakers on the left and right of the kb play and the subwoofer.
when playing an mp3 or game, the bottom speakers seem to generate sound while the ones left and right of the kb do not... really odd -
So I've been using some programs that use the 5.1 sound. I've noticed that some sounds don't play at all (ones that are programmed to come from the 3 non-functioning speakers). However, when I set it to Stereo in the RealTek menu, those sounds play.
This is an issue with multiple programs, and not just the RealTek audio test. I have yet to hear these three speakers make a noise.
Any hints? Should I send this back on warranty? Because I don't like the prospect of being computer-less for a week, I already had to go a whole month and a half before I bought this thing without a computer in my house. If it's definitely a hardware issue, it'll be a while before I send it in. Any sure-fire way I could tell if it's a software/driver issue? -
Thought I'd drop this on you fellas.

Download the only audio driver listed.
Once installed, go to your Sound devices. Right click on the primary sound, and click on Configure Speakers. Select 5.1 with the rear speakers behind you.
Now all the speakers will work.
Now if any of you figure out how to get 5.1 working out of the S/PDIF port, let me know... -
that is the same version that we are using, but i'll give it a shot...
wondering if everyone has this problem or just a select few and we need to send the laptops back. -
I just uninstalled the RealTek driver and I am now using the standard Windows 7 x64 drivers. In the configure speakers test, all speakers + sub now sound.
Are there any downsides to having the default windows 7 drivers on there instead of the RealTek ones? -

That's the alternative that I'm using right now and works. Only issue is I can't get SPDIF to work at all. Oh well... back to XP. -
I just did as lavaroach did and I'm using the drivers Windows auto-installs when RealTek drivers are removed. All speakers work, so at least it isn't a hardware issue (what a relief!). Sound is a bit louder than it was before, too (probably because all the speakers are putting out noise, not just 2).
Until RealTek starts liking Windows 7 better, I think I'll just stick with these drivers. -
