Arrgg!. I just installed 8gb of 1333 ram in my i7 820 NP8760. However, on start up it still shows 4gb as the physical ram. What I find disturbing is that when I as buying the computer 8gb was an option. Yet the manual for the Clevo W870CU says it can only take 4gb. What is the truth, and did I just waste a lot of money?

What OS is installed on the np8760? If you'r using a 32bit Vista or 32bit Windows 7. You can only see 3.xxGB of ram available. It's a limitation of 32-bit OS.

You can check your installed RAM via bios during power on press "F2". You should see 8xxxMB of ram installed.

    Hope this helps.

Put one stick in at a time and make sure both are working ...

I am using win7 64. I'm just wondering about the Clevo manual saying It can only take 4gb and Sager offering 8gb.
When I bought my old Gateway NX869XL they were trying to sell me 4gb on a 32 bit system, knowing full well the OS could only address 3gb.

Are you guys suggesting that if I update the BIOS the 8gb will register?

I've checked and my current bios is:
    BIOS revision 1.01.5s L52
    KBC/EC Firmware Revision 1.00.06

Are you sure you have an 8760? Your bios looks more like an 8690 bios.

Fzhfzh and tehshanerator are suggesting a bios update, which sounds exactly right -- assuming you have an 8760.

I PAID for and 8760 and the paperwork says that it is. But I'm getting a little leery of SAGER.

You should know if you have a 8760 or 8690 just by looking at some pics on line... Not to mention one is huge compared to other :)..

If you have a Gap between the lid and the chassis then you have the 8760..

No offense intended, but as you know bad things can happen when one computer is flashed with the system bios from another, different one. Just wanted to be sure that didn’t happen to you. If your paperwork says its a Sager 8760, I'm sure it is, but that bios number is not typical of the model, which generally follow the style 1.00.xx (as do later bios's for the 8690). Earlier 8690 bios's used the 1.01. xx number scheme. Just be sure you have the right bios before flashing. Not trying to create an issue where none exists.

As I posted, ram is now up and running. However, the Bios thing has me wondering. The Sager website does have a few updates listed for my machine. One is a bios update. I downloaded it and the zip contains an .iso file. Shouldn't it be an .exe? Should I even consider flashing if the machine is working well? Answers? suggestions?
    thanks.

You burn the downloaded .iso file to a CD, then boot from the CD and flash from there. There are detailed instructions for updating the system BIOS on Clevo/Sager computers in the first post/message of this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/416916-clevo-bios.html

Edit: Sorry, didn't see Shane's reply before posting.

Figures it was something simple like this and why i suggested trying one stick at a time... Glad you got it resolved .. When RAM is not registering the first thing to always try is reseating/removing..
