For the NP9150 / P150EM with the 7970m, what video outputs (if any) support 4K on an external monitor?

The HD4000 IGP supports up to 2560x1600 I believe so that's the max output and from the display port.

i thought the display port is wired to the display card instead of the HD4000 but correct me if i'm wrong, but if its wired to the display card than it will support whatever resolution by creating a custom registry with 4k resolution and refresh rate up to 60, if you do see something glitchy with 60hz you'll have to go lower until its stable

No, in all sager/clevo models the display outputs are all wired to the IGP in optimus/enduro setups.

this is sad as hd4k can decode 4k easily

It's the displayport version that's built in. 4k is still pretty niche so only modern machines are even starting to support it.

Sorry to drag this back up, but I have a follow up question. How many external displays are supported? There's the 3 video connectors on the back, but I know that doesn't necessarily mean you can use all 3 at the same time.

I believe on your model was just the internal and one external. To do two externals you would have to disable the built in screen. If you need more then this you could get a USB adapter for each additional external, but keep in mind you would be running off the USB video processor. You can double check, since its an older model thats just by memory.

Yes due to the limitations of the IGP it can only do 2 displays since the internal panel is LVDS and not eDP. The intel IGP needs two displays on displayport to run 3 displays.

The exception to this is you can still add a WIDI display but that has drawbacks of course.

Thanks. I'll probably just invest in a nice 27" screen and use the laptop screen as a side screen.

There are some really good options out there that will look really nice :) If you are budget limited a high quality 1440p panel is a better idea than a cheaper 4k one anyway.
