How would this laptop run for the occasional gamer for strategy and simulation games? Such as Civilization and the total war series? Also would it be better to spend the 100 on the graphic card or the processor?

Very well. Id say graphics as the cpu is very easy to upgrade later where as the graphics is more costly.

You'll see more of a performance gain for gaming by stepping up the GPU then you will the CPU.

So long as you have the 3610qm at least as your base cpu.

Agreed as long as its the 3610QM, i think most places have the 3630QM as the standard CPU on the NP9150.

Thanks for all your help! This is the model I plan on getting everything at the base except the graphics I am contemplating upgrading to the GTX 680M. Being a complete novice at this. If I am going to stick with the 3630 is there anything worth upgrading. Is the 680M even worth the upgrade?

Yes the 680m is a card that will remain relevant for a long time and offers oodles of tweaking in the future.

You're very welcome. It really comes down to the games you play. To play the most demanding games out right now and maintain good FPS on top settings only the 680M will be able to do that currently. If you go with that check out the Special Edition as it comes with the 680M as the standard GPU. I always recommend a SSD as the primary drive as well. You'll see a big improvment on how the computer responds to you. Programs/games start pretty much instantly and Windows boots much faster. Dont forget to add Windows as most Sager resellers dont have it by default.

    totally agree about the ssd.

    just for example
    5400rpm - 35-40 seconds boot up time
    7200rpm - 20-25 seconds boot up time
ssd (mine below) - 12-15 seconds boot up time
samsung pro ssd - dont blink or youll miss it :D

Looks like Meaker got you beat by 1-2 seconds. Are you on Windows 7 MrDJ, that could be the reason you're a tad slower.

god knows what happened. couldnt turn fingerprint reader on again even after loading the drivers again. it opened the page where you can set up various website log ins using finger but the register page to link up to computer log in had gone.
done a system restore which brought it all back to working again but then i noticed avast was turned off and it wouldnt turn on. my 267 days left of licence was gone. tried the licence which said it was invalid. went to their website to request another copy of my licence and they said my email is not on their database so only way around it was to download the free version again and then enter my licence key which finally worked.

you win Meaker as my boot up time is now 37 minutes :D me goin to bed. night all.
