Hi, I was looking into a 15.6 inch laptop with something better than the asus gtx660m. After searching I found sager, which I never heard about, and instantly liked its looks.

I was thinking about getting the Radeon HD 7970M but saw that people were having issues with Enduro, and since there's no way of turning Enduro off with sager computers, the 7970m is not the best option.

My second choice is the GTX 675m but I see some people are having BOSD or blackout problems with this one.

I now have no idea what to get or if I should try a different company..

I was in a situation similar to yours. I decided on getting the 680M with my P150EM (pollux 1612 from Mythlogic) after hearing about all the issues with the 7970M.

I got a lot of feedback saying that getting the 7970M would still be better than the 675m from a performance standpoint even with enduro issues. Also, AMD has said that they are working on a fix to the issue and it should be out before the end of the year, but who knows if that will fix it.

I personally couldn't find any other laptops that met my needs for looks, performance and size other than the clevo set up. I needed something that I could take to work and school without being crazy flashy or 17", so AW was out. Without knowing all the details of your situation I would say get the 7970M clevo if thats what you like or spring for the 680M if your budget allows.

    Hey how is it going!

The 7970m issue is expected to be fixed by the AMD October driver, and we may see a beta hotfix late this month or early October. You could put faith that the new driver will fix the issue or wait for the hotfix and then make your decision, but if you do not wish to wait I would usually recommend the GTX 680m or GTX 675m, but apparently there are BSOD problems as you said. I don't believe those issues are as widespread though, but I could be wrong.

In the end, I personally recommend waiting for any kind of hotfix. It would be at most a month from now before we see at least a beta form, which isn't that long of a wait. If the fix works, then the 7970m will be a HUGE value with great performance.

yeah, I really hope they fix the issue before windows 8 comes out X_X (quite scared of the new os honestly)

I cant handle the AW's flashy exterior either, and I'm looking at 15 inch laptops only. The MSI looks cheap (shiny plastic) like the old HP laptops imo. I really like the asus' build quality and I think the clevo's platform is comparable. I want to make sure that if i get a sager, that it will work flawlessly unlike my frustrating asus g51j lol.. throttle issues and fps drop unless i have fans blowing at it.

ps. im in the bay area too :D

pps. which screen options did you guys pick? I dont know if the matte is worth it, or the brighter screen options

I decided on the 90% gamut matte screen just beacuse I was splurging a bit with this purchase. I have no idea if the upgrade is worth it because the system is still being built. I guess I'll find out in a week or two.

From what I heard, you won't see much of a difference in-game with a higher gamut screen. Matte vs glossy is personal preference. I went with glossy at first, then changed to matte because I hate reflections, especially in games with dark areas. I didn't see much of a difference in brightness, but it might just be me. I heard great things about the stock matte, but I can't confirm since mine is aftermarket.

12.9 Beta was announced by CatalystCreator on twitter to be released this week. I think this may have the Enduro fix, I hope.

    Nope, no fix yet:

    "Andrew D ‏@CatalystCreator

Catalyst 12.9 Beta will include new Enduro UI updates; but the specific 7970M performance issues will be addressed in an Oct release "

I don't think Enduro is responsible for stability issues (meaning crashes/BSODs). At least I haven't had any crashes with the stock drivers. Just the low utilization/fps at times.

Scothu, you don't have to get Windows 8 if you don't want to. Microsoft is making it super cheap which kind of angers me, because a bunch of people are going to buy it for how cheap it is, and then game and program developers are going to be forced to optimize for it, taking focus away from Windows 7. I am personally not going to upgrade to Windows 8 until it is proven the OS performs a lot better.

not sure where you saw this but this is entirely NOT a common/known issue among 675m users. you may be confusing this with the debacle that 7970m users are currently experiencing, which goes quite a bit beyond just enduro (i.e. underutilization, faulty/dead cards, etc.).

My GTX675M is 3 months old, absolutely 0 BSOD. Switched to the 1st GTX 680M in July, had BSOD on the 2nd day with the 1st GTX 680M, 1st GTX 680M died on the 5th day I had it, removed and sent back, put the GTX 675M back on, absolutely 0 BSOD with GTX 675M. Now using 2nd GTX 680M, absolutely 0 BSOD with the 2nd GTX 680M :D.

BSOD could also be that the card is dying, poorly soldered in factory.

I got BSOD and shut downs on my clevo P150 with 7970M and the cause was the CPU's temp sink wasnt properly tighten... i fixed that with a simple screwdriver and an OS Reload and now 0 BSOD's.
