I have a Sager NP9170 with the 7970m and I'm wondering If I would be able to hook up two monitors to it and still have the laptop display too. I checked CCC(13.1) to find eyefinity, which the 7970m supports (says the ATI Page on it), and Its not there. If I can setup two other monitors to it, how would I do so?

    7970m: AMD Radeon

External output is controlled by the iGPU. I don't think the mobile versions of the cards are capable of EyeFinity anyway. In order to have multiple monitors set up with your laptop screen, you would probably need a SLI/CF interface implemented.

You can also get a USB video adapter that will allow you to hook up additional external monitors. The dont run off the dedicated card but on their own video processor. So they are good to use for basic/medium use to have an extra screen but you dont want to game on them.

Alright, so my best bet is the USB video adapter. I don't plan on using the monitor for gaming, just monitoring my system temps and such. Thanks for the quick responses!

A dedicated mobile card powering the output is capable of multiple displays. The GX60 can at least do 3 (external) and the new workstation GT60 from MSI does 3 + the internal.

True about the dedicated card powering output, but is this the case for the NP9170 as it is for said GX60/GT60?

No because the intel chip is powering the displays, you were saying the card's themselves don't support it, they do but the intel chip controlling the displays does not.

The designers could use dedicated ports which were hooked into the graphics card to create more display options but it would be quite expensive PCB wise and perhaps cause some driver issues.

It is all a bit confusing but hopefully Intel will integrate some more options with haswell, that would help clear up some of these differences.
