I dropped a screw when I was replacing the wifi card in NP9170 ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/766945-sager-np9170-cooling-elements.html), so I had to open everything up. It turned out that the screw got stuck magnetically to the left speaker (situated in between the monitor and the keyboard). In the process, a piece of threading broke off on the left side

so now I have a spare screw.

After some snafus, I got the system back up and running, except that the speaker buzzes whenever it plays anything, and the most horrifying sound is the system notification ding with massive clipping. It could be that the place where the threading broke from is now loose, so is vibrating inappropriately with the speakers. But when I hold that place down, it doesn't make a difference, and I don't feel much of anything there.

I checked the speaker wire (the one in the middle, between the monitor and keyboard), and they are fine. I suspect that it could be that when I put the top cover back, I let the speakers touch something. But I really don't want to open this up one more time, tearing out the GPU and CPU heatsinks.

Has anyone else experienced this before?

edit: after testing, it seems that only the right speaker is at fault

Double check the cable connection for the speakers, where it connects to the board. That right speaker might need to be replaced. Unfortunately the two are wired together, so you'd have to opt for acquiring a pair. Your reseller may not ship a part like that standalone, so you may need to resort to sending the laptop out for service, even (if it comes down to needing a replacement).
