I owned an NP8170 for a short while with the stock glossy screen and it was horrendous. However since I'm considering a full size gaming laptop again, I was debating between the NP9170 and NP9150. But if the screen is as horrible as it was before I don't even want to consider the NP9170, and I would get the Matte screen option too. I am really tempted to just go with the NP9150 because of the excellent screen options, but 17" would be nice to have not to mention second HDD bay.

Anyhow, has anyone seen the two side by side?

Ditching the little devil already? xD
Got the non-stock matte screen on my P170HMx and its very good.
Hopefully they offer something similar for the NP9150 & NP9170.

No not ditching it, complementing it. :) The worse part of the NP8170 stock screen was viewing angles. It was pretty bad. Otherwise the machine was awesome.

I'm downsizing to 15" this time around. I went with the 95% matte screen.

Did some research, the 70% matte expensive upgrade on the NP170EM is only considered to be barely average, entry level for say a desktop computer. It seems an awful lot of money to upgrade to a screen that is considered to be entry level by desktop standards, and for most who use desktops, is considered unacceptable, if they do any type of graphic, photo etc. work.

Whereas the 95% is true wide gamut professional level.

I do very minimal / casual / personal work with photos, etc. But what I can't stand is a washed out screen with horrible viewing angles. The matte in my NP6110 is actually quite nice, even though viewing angles leave a lot to be desired. I think I'm leaning towards the NP9150 anyhow. I really won't use the blu-ray much, and have an external if I really need it. And 17" is nice, but they're both 1080p and not sure if it will make much difference.

Only thing i kinda hate on my P170HMx is the damn 15" keyboard on a 17" model.
Wish Clevo will do a fullsize keyboard on their next model.

There isn't much of a difference between the P150EM and P170EM :) proof

and regarding the viewing angles :p they've got slightly better as far as I can see... check THIS out ;)

Yeah, I remember that really bothered me too with the NP8170. One of the advantages of a 17" is a wider chassis for a nice full size keyboard. Why, Clevo, why!?

Thanks for this. Likely going with the 15" then. :)

I love the brushed aluminum finish of the 17" though. It would be nice if they offered the option for the 15" version too. I thought I'd not like the rubberized finish, but it really is not bad at all on my NP6110.

Why are you considering a high end gaming laptop again since you have a desktop already?

Haven't had the privilege of comparing the 9170 and 9150 screens side by side, but currently have the 95% gamut matte screen on the 9150 and it's fabulous. There are no issues with it even with light streaming through a window from behind me.

This is a very crisp-looking display. At extreme viewing angles there will be significant colour shifts. But I can stand nearly to one side (left or right) of the screen, or even nearly above it, and I can still read the words, or at least make up the shape of little objects on the screen.

Unlike yourself, I personally don't like the rubberized finish, or the glossy/ reflective plastic surrounding the screen, but that's a small nitpick.

The gamut of the NP9170 was a deal breaker for me ( paying a bit more for an inferior screen ). Going to go for the NP9150. I agree with WingNut and wished the brushed aluminum was on the 15". I have heard mixed things about the rubberized finished, not sure what I'll think of it.
