NP9170 with AMD Radeon 7970M (onboard Intel 4000 also), drivers for Win 8?

I noticed that the drivers thread is way out of date (2011?). So what are all of you using with your 7970M and NP9170s?

After tons of BSOD issues with the card on Windows 7 (both default drivers and updated ones), I decided that if I was wiping everything and doing clean windows install anyways I would try windows 8. The problem is: I have no idea which drivers to use!

So I would like to clarify two things. First, the procedure. On a clean machine it should just be: Install Intel drivers (though it says mine are up to date?) - reboot - install AMD drivers and software - reboot.

Second, the specific drivers. Sagenotebook.com has a page at their drivers page . But, these look dated compared to other sources (AMD windows 8 says 25-Oct-12, V 8.982.6.0). AMD's support and drivers tool ( AMD Catalyst) says to get them from the manufacturer. But, even still, I've seen posts of people using the "new Catalyst beta drivers". And then there are the Clevo drivers.

What tricks am I missing here? What are your thoughts on which drivers we should be using? What problems (and solutions) have you encountered with this graphics card?

 

Found a direct download link to the mobility version of the drivers, 12-6. I know this is "old" but perhaps it is before issues arrived?

 

Basically, yes. I advise always installing the chipset driver first, before installing any others.

Drivers from the notebook reseller/manufacturer are commonly outdated, but they are tested. If you want the most up to date, then always go with the driver from the manufacturer's page; especially for BETA drivers.

Go with the most up to date driver available - or the BETA/performance driver. The latter has solved many issues, but you will need to do some trial and error before you can really determine which driver to stick with.

Hey guys I have the same setup (from the basics i can tell) and problem as the original poster. Doing a clean install of 8 to try it out, but the drivers are presenting an issue. Installed the Intel 4000 HD drivers after installing the chipset first then 7970m drivers, and it corrupted my install so i wiped and am back to clean again. Trying to set up ssd's through windows settings, but does anyone have advice on the install order of drivers to avoid the error screen and inevitable boot loops i experienced?

 

The right intel drivers should be part of the AMD driver package, installing intel's own drivers will likely cause conflict.
