    Hello everyone,

I bought my NP9262 almost a year ago when dual 8800M GTXs were the best things avaliable. Due to certain "financial restrictions" :p I chose to go with only one 8800M GTX, knowing I could upgrade later. Well, since then I've deployed to Iraq and haven't had much time to stay with the new technology. Now all these new games are comming out soon (Dragon Age: Origins, SC II, Diablo 3, ect.) and I'm still having trouble playing Fallout 3 on ultra! Well now that it's obviously time to upgrade and i'm having a little trouble deciding what to choose. My main variables are:

Difficulty: Most i've ever done was install these 3 Seagates I just got in.
Cost: Don't get paid too much in the Army, so obviously a stipulation.
Avaliablity: Would it be easier to aqcuire 2 9800M GTXs or just get one more 8800M GTX, ect.

I'm not even sure of what ALL my options are so I would really appreciate any help or advice any is able to give.

    Thanks

get another 8800M GTX and SLI it (with SLI bridge cable when you order the card)... that will be best bang for the buck for you.

contact your vendor to see how much another 8800M GTX (with SLI cable) will cost.

A few vendors are still selling it... start with Eurocom, but make sure to ask them the "best price" that they can do since they are usually known for high prices on their sites.

Cool, thats what i've been going for. I've already asked Sager about this but they keep giving me some crap about they've phased out that card so they don't sell it anymore. I've read your "READ THIS FIRST" page. Should I start emailing all those companies listed and asking them about the part?

Like I said, i'm kind of entry level at this. Is there anything else I will want to tell them about the card i'm looking for, i.e. MXM type?

You could ask for a 9800 GT and flash your 8800 GTX to that. They're the same cards, just a name change.

Yea that sounds like an option too. Only problem is i've never flashed anything electronic in my life, lol. Sounds like a pain. Does the 9800 GT have much up on the 8800 GTX?

right on. I just emailed about 10 different vendors and asked about pricing. Once I do get the card, how much trouble is it to install? Is it a simple drop in or do i require a bios flash or something?

Well you can flash your master card to a 9800 GT now. Ask someone else for that. It's a simple drop in; unscrew a heatsink, etc.

Excellent. I'll wait to see what card will be easier and cheaper to get my hands on, then i'll worry about flashing it. Sounds easy enough. Now I don't feel so technologically behind (damn NP9280 with their i7s and 280Ms).

    Thanks for all the help

OK I got a few responses back from some different Vendors. Eurocom is saying that the 8800M GTX is running at $625 and the bridge cable is $25, but they can let both go for $625. Not sure if this is rediculously overpriced, but it sounds like a little much considering that 9800M GTX is going for $325 in the NBR Marketplace.

Also, PROSTAR is asking me for a serial number for the part itself. Instead of breaking open my D901C and taking apart the heatsinks, ect. i'm wondering if anyone already knows the part number i'm looking for.

unfortunatly, because of the disclaimer from xotic email i can not quote their price.

but I heard it's between 600-800 dollars without shipping and it includes the cable. oh that's for the 9800gtx.

Yea, these are some pretty rediculous quotes. I was thinking I should be able to snag one for less than 4

i would contact a vendor (seeing that you bought from PCMW in your sig), and see if they can help you out with any upgrades. you might be able to send it to them to do the upgrade, or they can send you the parts.

if they cant help you, i would contact rjtech and see if they can help you out with the upgrade parts needed.
