But this is highly unlikely....Due to the fact that if you can upgrade a d901c to gtx280m, it could hurt sales of the d900f/m980nu

    @theriko
    yeah, I know about that.
but Gophn said in other thread, once the cards out, we can still hope for a cooked BIOS. and a modified Type III to Type IV MXM card I guess.

The type III/IV cards will def be coming out, as the M570TU will be using them, so that's not a problem. So far there have been no 'cooked' clevo bioses as they are locked down pretty tight. Otherwise there would be 9800M GTX's in M570RU's

    Just a small update:

My notebook arrived in FL on the 24th via UPS. It was shipped to KSA the day after via DHL.
So far here's a list of countries my possession has traveled through or is traversing..

    USA
    Tampa - FL
    Orlando - FL
    Atlanta - GA
    Wilmington - OH

    UK
    East Midlands

    Germany
    Leipzig

Next Destination: Dubai - UAE, then Jeddah - KSA, then, finally, Milano - Italy

    ETA: 14th of April.

I'd just like to thank Xoticpc publicly for their wonderful service and punctual shipping!

PS: I'll update my sig only once and a while so, it won't be -22 forever :p (hopefully)

My question is, you asked XoticPC to send your item using UPS Ground.
After UPS done its work, who is the one who took care the package and shifted it to DHL?

oh it's brilliant for getting things from the states. normally we just use it to ship magazines that we'd have trouble finding anywhere else.

Just tracked my package today. It's in Riyadh! It'll be at my parent's house tomorrow or the the day after! can't wait till they recieve it, at least that way i know everything is ok! (regarding dead pixels, body damage etc. I'll do the bigger software check when my parents come back.)

yep, all this is to avoid taxes and no i don't pay a thing, as they're transit countries. You pay taxes only at the end destination, i.e. the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Their custom services are notoriously lazy / careless. theoretically, i could even not pay as it's a shipment between two people with the same name, but that's a bit of a long shot and it would take some arguing with the authorities.

It's worth it if you consider that had i paid for shipping directly to Italy, I would have had to pay 40% on top of the price of the notebook..

I can forgive going to such extraordinary lengths to avoid paying taxes if you are equally meticulous in avoiding the use of things such as roads, sidewalks, street signs, and emergency services that taxes pay for.

    Are you?

I believe his point is that you're "backstabbing" your country by avoiding the taxes :D

So if you willing to go that far to avoid taxes, you have to have the same willing to avoid your country facilities which ofcourse were built by taxes :D

Thanks xor01, i understood what he meant I wasn't clear on why he said it. Aside from the moral aspect of "cheating" your country which i will not dwell on, I'm not backstabbing anyone, what I'm doing is completely legal and I'm free to do whatever is within my power to avoid a tax that I don't need to pay. I don't see why I should spend an extra $1400 as a present to Italy's customs office, and for what reason? to be an upstanding citizen? oh please.
If i told a customs officer that i could have avoided import tax but decided to pay it anyway, what do you think he'd do? give me a medal? no. he'd probably laugh in my face and call me stupid.

Before labelling me as a criminal tax evader, maybe you should read my posts. I'm still paying import tax, just in another (cheaper) country where there is property i own.

And anyway, the majority of our "facilities" (roads, etc.) were all built on war money or private funding (fiat).

My question still stands. whats your point? i'm not being criminal, just smart.

Actually, if you didn't know yet, all custom duties and taxes go straight into the EU budget, they never get to Italy. EU makes its living out of custom duties and taxes and out of a small percentage of VAT. So if you are pissed about your duty taxes, write and angry letter to EU.

I'm not sure if import taxes are the same as custom duties, or if the duties are a part of that tax (more likely) but even if custom duties did go to the EU, it would be unfair to say that is what it makes it's living on. I think it's safe to say that 1.24% GNI of the member countries is far more money than what could possibly be collected in duties. (we're talking hundreds of billions)

Anyway, custom duties are not uniform across the EU. Germany for example has decided to remove all customs duties for goods arriving from the US. Things like these are still governed by member countries. So if the tax is high, I have to blame Italy for making it high, not the EU for taking it.

You are right, countries now also contribute to the EU with a percentage of the GDP but this is because in the past 20 year costumes duties have rapidly decline due to, you know, globalisation, WTO negotiations and so on. So the %GNI was set up some time ago when they couldn't get anymore money out of duty taxes, but still all those taxes go to the EU budget and make up a great deal of the EU budget.

Anyway, the European Union is a customs union among other things, so all laws regarding custom duties, import regulations and so on are exclusively the competence of the EU. If a country decides something else, it will be pinned down by the European Court of Justice, even the VAT is not allowed to float around as countries want. So I can tell for certain that custom duties are the same for all EU, but countries apply them differently. Some will charge you for everything, others will not bother with it to much as the money doesn't get to them anyway.

Nah, I just had 3 too many windows open and 1 too many beers. I meant to post in the thread about the xoticpc pre-orders for the 280m. I wound up posting in this one. :( Still, it seems both threads are covering the same topics so it almost worked out.

I didn't want to come back and explain because now the thread is completely off topic. Whoops again!

Well it sounds like you have waited a long time to receive your laptop and I know how you feel. I ordered my 9262 at the end of February with almost the same specs as yours and it shipped on the 2nd of March. But because I am in wonderful Iraq and the Army's mailing system is oh so reliable it is still not here and now because of a certain move I probably wont get the thing until the end of April. Certified mail doesnt do anything either because they cant track it once it gets over here. So I feel your pain lol.

I know i shouldn't really say this but, my notebook arrived in Saudi today, so i've stopped waiting! reports are that there are no dead pixels, that it turns on fine and that the package wasn't damaged in any way! so, woohoo!!

Haha, I have a feeling I'm going to be in the same situation, alwaysoutfront.

My 9262 ships tomorrow, and we're supposed to move in around a month... guess we'll see how that turns out, but maybe it'll get here quicker since I ordered directly from Sager (or maybe slower, we'll see).

I know most people say that they order from xotic pc and they don't include bloatware, but does Sager themselves put a bunch on? The only thing that I know that's going to be preinstalled is windows and microsoft office.

just ran 3dmark06 with stock drivers, heres a screenshot:

    3dm06stock.jpg

drivers are Nvidia stock 7.15.11.7948. Now updating to 179.48...

That's kind of a low 3d mark score, isn't it? I mean it's below the average according to 3dmark (unless that's including desktops which isn't fair). Guess I'll be overclocking my 9800m gtx's when they get in.

    7.15.1 1.7948 is 179.48

That average does include desktops, it's everything ever 3dmarked (well, probably within a certain time period...)

hummm, can we see a screen shot?
1: disable physx in nvidia control panel or in the windows control panel
2: make sure you installed the patch

    3: it's best to bench 3dmark06 with 176.09 or 176.25 for 3dmark runs only.
4: use driver 185.20 for vantage mark and games. it's a pain in the to install sometimes, but once installed..works great.

It is version 1.0.1, the hotfixed version

A restart seemed to make it work. I've posted the score, but I believe its a bit low. I ran the benchmark without closing everything as i just did it to see if it worked. Will post a better benchmark maybe tomorrow with the 185.20 drivers.

@Italian.madness Grazie! :D I want to get it over 15k, then i'll be happy!

I'm pretty new to upgrading laptops so i'll make this short. I want to upgrade my D901C (9262) to a daul GPU SLI config. I purchased it with the option avaliable, but decided to upgrade later. Now i'm having trouble doing it.

Where can i purchase a second 8800M GTX?
What else will i need to complete the upgrade?
