How is the battery life on the laptop for something like using Microsoft Word in class to take notes? No gaming or videos while not plugged in. the only time I would take the computer off the plug is when I'm in class. Will it last long enough for a 1.5 hour class on a low power setting?

hmm only an hour? thats not good.
-
The 9262 doesn't really have a battery, it acts more like a UPS. Also note that the battery cannot be taken out without a screwdriver.
-
Its a quad-core, dual hard drive, SLI system. One hour is a miracle.
-
I try to think of it as a desktop. They can have battery backups, but they require to be plugged in. That, and it's mobility, makes this computer that more awesome than a desktop.
-
Dude!...if u want long batt. life get an IBM Thinkpad. That would be good for taking notes as well...and doing school stuff. The 9262 is a top-of-the-line power hungry beast.
It doesn't specialize in economizing batt. life. Everything else but that!
-
I'm not looking for long battery life. I just wanted enough to run Microsoft Word and take notes for an hour and a half. Maybe type up an essay in class or something, other than that it wont ever leave the plug.
-
Ok..got u! I thought u didn't know any better.
-
You can always Undervolt the CPU, have only 1 hdd and 1 card
And that`d get you about 2 h.
-
Actually I am only having it with one graphics card, and only a single 5400 rpm hard drive. I've already got a rather large external.
-
It may last your whole class, if you put the brightness low, and you also need a big enough desk, none of those half desks coming from one side
-
If you're only getting one GPU and one HDD, then consider getting the 5796 instead of the 9262. Smaller, and gets about 2hrs. battery life. Plus, the batteries are easily changable (no screwdriver needed), so you can hibernate it and put in a fresh battery in no time.
-
1 GPU, a 5400rpm HDD and perhaps a duo proc? should be able to last 2 hours on low power settings (turn down the brightness, don't run weird programs like anti-viruses etc during lessons)..
if you're going with quad then you can undervolt it since you're only typing an essay and not needing so much processing.. you can undervolte the GPU at the same time too..
i'd stick with the 9262 if i were you. fabulous machine, great cooling (only the guy in front of you might get abit hot if you blast the fans on max
) it'll be a great machine. anytime outside classes you can plug it in and have unrivalled gaming performace
oh yeah and after you're done with education, or having long hols etc, you can always add in another GPU and 2 more HDD to make it really portable.. great for lan parties, stayovers, etc.. do remember that this machine is easily upgradable. anytime, almost anywhere
ok so to cut the long story short, 1.5hrs on 9262 for typing out essays during lessons, more than possible. should be able to reach 2 hours if all yr settings go easy on the batt
-
I think mine gets well over an hour, maybe 15 or 20 minutes more, browsing the net, using Word, with SLi disabled on powersaving mode, and with screen brightess reduced.
I was actually surprised it lasts so much! -
Considered, but no. I want the quadcore.
The upgrade potential of the machine is the reason why I'm getting one. Once I'm done with my intense classes, I'll still have so much use for the computer, where as my Toshiba Satellite is pretty much useless to me outside of class. -
i'm still using my toshiba satellite on and off but just for more simple tasks. yes its true that the 9262 has lots of potential everywhere else, but it seems the battery is the main concern here for you.. well, 1.5 hours should be alright if you ask me. just readjust your settings for better battery time
so yeah, hope your doubt's cleared.. and you can jump onto the 9262 boat now
-
That makes good sense, then. Sounds like other 9262 owners are able to get the battery-life out of it that you need, so you should be in good shape. Hope you enjoy the machine!
