Around one year ago, I purchased a NP9262 from PC Microworks (bad idea). My battery is dead and I made an effort to contact PC Microworks, but got no responce and gave up seeing as I most always use it plugged. Just today, the laptop shut off while playing a game and there was a burning smell. I let it cool, turned it back on, and tried to research the problem, and the laptop shut off again. SJust my luck I am a couple weeks past warrenty, and PC Microworks isn't any help anyways. My question is where can I go to pay for a repair to the computer?

I had this very same problem, when I returned it to Sager, they said that it was nothing, and everything inside the laptop was untouched... however, I think that it might be a fried video card or a faulty / fried motherboard.
I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with your laptop, and I wish you good luck on solving them. -
Hmm, I'll try contacting Sager about the repair. I had heard that PCM got their laptops from two Sager and Euro, but I wasn't sure if there was a way to tell which one the laptop came from or if it even mattered. Anyways thanks for the suggestion.

Did you remove the backplate of your system? Any clues there, lots of dust? -
From what I understand, PC Microworks purchased a lot of their systems through one of two companies - Mediawave or Eurocom. With the serial number of your system, you should be able to identify which company your system came from, and then see if you can get assistance from that company (be prepared to pay for the work and any necessary parts, although take a shot at pleading your case based on the apparent implosion of PCMW).

I'm prepared to pay, but another problem has arised... When I look at the bottom panel for the Serial number... It's not there. I found where it says Serial No. and there is just a blank space next to it... Is there somewhere else I can find a serial number or am I pretty much screwed.

Open it up and see if you can find the identifying number and revision no. on the motherboard.

I had similar problems, bought 1 year ago from xoticpc (no smell though). Sager "replaced" one of the video cards and it's working just fine.

There is another thread on another 9262 not booting, which was also bought about a year ago.

It may be me, but a few 9262's are having similar "not powering" problems.
If you still have warranty, call and send it in (except if you bought from PCMicroworks.)
Regards, -
Well, a week ago I sent it into Sager. They told me it was a bad motherboard and it would cost $400. I looked up some old emails, and apparently it was still under warranty when I shipped it so I asked them about it. They told me to contact PC Microworks because the laptop didn't come from them. So I sent a message back asking for the identifying number so I can check with Eurocom to see if they will cover it. Not sure what else to do but thanks for the suggestions.

Anyone know if you can buy a motherboard somewhere and fix it yourself. I couldn't find any information on the motherboard in a np9262.

one thing i dislike is that it picks up dust pretty fast on the fans. when i got it, i got a brush and clean them off. i'm carrying a toothbrush with it at all times.
