Hello,
I bought a NP9262 from Sager about 9 months ago equipped with a single Quadro 1600M. I am starting to think that might have been a mistake and I should have gone with the 9800 GTX (I know that the 9800 would be much better for gaming, and from what I have read, probably as good or better for CAD programs as well)
Anyway, I just want to get a good setup so I can play some games. I have the option of getting a video card for my desktop (Core2duo 2.6Ghz, 2GB RAM) or my NP9262 (Q9550, 4GB RAM). I wold like to upgrade my laptop since it has better processor, ram, (and it's a laptop!) But not if it will be much cheaper to get comparable gaming performance on my desktop.
Does anybody think I would be able to sell my 1600M, or maybe even trade it in for a 9800M? Or will it be more cost effective to just upgrade my desktop's video card (currently a 8600 GT)
Thanks for any advice!
Ian

in the NBR Marketplace, someone is selling their NP9262's 9800M GTX for a good price.
Or if you want the best pro graphics card, you can get a Quadro 3700M. -
So if I spent the $380 to get a 9800M GTX for my 9262 (Q9559, 4GB RAM) vs. $360 for a GeForce GTX 285 for my desktop (Core2Duo 2.6 Ghz, 2GB RAM) which would be the better gaming system?
-
the desktop would definitely be the better gaming system since the desktop GTX 200 cards are way better than the notebook GTX 200M's.
-
it really comes down to where you would do the most gaming.
if it is on the go, then choose the laptop.
if it is usually at home, then choose your desktop.
typically the upgrade options for the desktop are cheaper, and better then the mobile equivalent.
hope this helps.
*edit*
it also depends on the games you play. what are you playing now that you are unhappy with? -
Ok, I thought that would be the case. Thank you very much for your help

Don't meen to steal your thread Ian, but i'm kind of in the same boat you are.
I am also wondering about a upgrade for a NP9262. When I originally bought it i only opted for one 8800M GTX instead of two, thinking i would just upgrade later. Now that I see all the different options the D901C can handle in the MXM IV form factor i'm wondering what the best option for an upgrade would be. My biggest variables in choosing between the upgrades are:
Difficulty (I would rate myself a 4 out of 10 in the upgrading department)
Cost (i've already sinked quite a bit into this machine with the HDD upgrades)
Access (would it be alot harder to find 2 9800M GTXs or one more 8800M GTX, ect.)
I'm not positive of ALL my options right now, but i'm tossing up the quadros the 1 extra 8800M GTX or the two 9800M GTX.
Thanks for any help -
Right now I would like to play fallout3 and the 1600M just doesn't cut it. I would like to be able to play it on the go, but I definitely don't have $380 to spend on a 9800GTX (especially if that money would get me such a better desktop card)
I was kinda hoping there would be someway to exchange the 1600M I got for my Sager for the 9800, but those are probably high hopes. -
you can also contact rjtech for GPU purchases if your particular vendor does not have any in stock.
what settings are you looking to play F3 on? it might just need some tweaking to make it run at acceptable levels. -
I definitely tried tweaking, but the 1600M just won't play it at an acceptable level for me. The way I see it, I will usually only play a game like fallout3 once, so I might as well play it to it's graphic potential (if that means I have to wait a couple years to get a better card then so be it)

Well with 9800m gtx's in SLI I max out Fallout 3 on Ultra, and max out FPS 95% of the time.

give that a shot.. if you havent already
