Looking at configuring an NP9262. What are the advantages/disadvantages of going with two (2) of the SLI ENABLED DUAL 512MB PCI-Express nVidia GeForce 9800M GT as opposed to one (1) of the 1,024MB PCI-Express nVidia GeForce 9800M GTX DDR3 DX10.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Well, the 9800m GTX itself is around 5-15% more powerful than the 9800m GT, due to its higher count of shader processors (96 (GT) vs 112 (GTX)), but, when you put a pair of 9800m GT's on SLi, the count of shader processors is literally doubled (192 VS 112), the 9800m GTX would not be as powerful as the 9800m GT's Two-Way SLi, although the 9800m GTX would still have 1 GB of Memory as opossed to only 512 MB of the 9800m GT, but still, memory size is not a factor for performance, so, go with the 9800m GT's Dual SLi.

yea.. plus as far as bang for your buck goes, the GT's in SLi is also better. Its just a little more than ONE 9800mGTX... which is a lil crazy imo...

but still if you have the extra money... got GTX SLi and walk around with a big grin on ur face

I'm not sure how advanced you plan to get with the laptop, but if you don't mind getting your hands dirty. You could always go with the 9800GTX now and in the future add another.

I would go with that, and add a card later.

Thanks for all the great advice. I am not looking for the cutting edge, but something that will last for some time. My son also wants something for gaming. It's a kitchen computer, so I want a laptop for size reasons...that's what led me to consider a quad core Sager with the dual 9800m GTs.

I'd get the SLI 9800GTs (basically a renamed 8800m GTX).
It's not worth the extra 700 dollars for the 10 percent performance increase of the 9800m GTX SLI.
