Hi, I'm thinking about getting a np9262 with these specs:
    - 17" WUXGA "Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright Glossy Screen (1920x1200)
    - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 3.0GHz w/ 12MB L2 Cache - 1333MHz FSB
    - Dual nVidia 9800M GTX 1,024MB (2,048MB TOTAL) PCI-Express w/GDDR3
    - 4,096MB DDR2 800 (2 SODIMMS) Dual Channel Memory
    - 250GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA II 300)

However, I'm not sure due to the upcoming release of the d90xf. My main concern is upgradability. I'd be willing to spend a lot on upgrades in 1-2 yr's time, but what are the prospects (e.g. to maybe upgrade to core i7)? Would such upgrades be possible without costing the same as a new d90xf? I know it's all speculation at this point, but what are the best guesses? From what little I've read here, it doesn't look good. Would you hold off on buying a np9262 right now? I know there'll always be a new release around the corner, but some of them are significant enough to merit waiting half a year (though I have a strong urge to buy the np9262 now). Thoughts?

Also (a related question) how long do you think the above set-up will be considered top-tier? Will it need upgrades in 1-2 yr's time to keep competitive (and, if so, roughly what kind)?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

Like I said in other threads.

If you want the D901C (aka. Sager NP9262), its probably best to get it when you can since the D90xF wont be available for purchase until late Summer to Fall 2009.

thats about 8-10 months of waiting.... willing to do that?

my notebook is still considered on of the fastest... its been about 3 years now. :)

Trust me, these D900 notebooks will remain to stay one of the top performing notebooks for a long time, since the desktop platforms go a longer way than mobile ones.

As for upgrades, the upcoming D90xF will still have the same MXM Type IV slots for the videocards, so if there is a new videocard, it will still work in both systems.

Who knows if the D90xF will have i7 core chips, believe me I think we all do want them, but like Gophn said they probably won't be out for a while.....but if you can wait for it..wait,but just remember when new hardware is released it is very expensive.
And the new i7 core chips use a new mobo that use a new socket...LGA1336..I think.

Should not wait for the new model. It will take at least a year before they start to sell it. ALso think about the high posibility of bugs that new models have. Stick with the D901C. The new models will give maybe more 10 % perfomance more only.

imo, get the 9262 now. don't think you'll be willing to wait for so long yeah??

and as Gophn has mentioned, his com is still fast..

if you're willing to spend quite a sum for top notch performance upgrades in 1-2 years time, i think the 9262 should be the best bet for now.

in 1-2 years time, it'll still be able to handle games with playable framerate (no stuttering), given the setup you mentioned above.

10%..? It all comes down to what you are going to do with it. IF the new model use i7 and you're going to render 3D animations, then you could argue that it's almost a 100% improvement. :)
