I have this two builds on mind and i need some advises to help me chose for one of them![]()
NP9262:1900X1200; Q6600; 2X9800 GT; 4GBDDR800MHz; 200GBHD7200rpm
NP5796: 1900x1200; x9100; 9800GTX; 4GBDDR1066MHz; 320gbHD5400rpm
I want to know how biggest is the difference between this two laptops in terms of performance (possible benchmarks and so).
I also want to know your opinion about this two gaming laptop becouse i know np9262 is more heavy than 5796 but this have no SLI technology and only one bay for the hard disk. What would you chose? and give me some reason that make me clear enough to purchase one of them.
The laptop would be used to work on autocad, play games, watch movies and it would be my main computer at home.
Thanks!

Welcome to the NBR forums.
1) quad-core CPU will kill the dual-core in multi-threaded apps/games.
2) SLI 9800M GT will beat a single 9800M GTX
3) RAM is the same really
4) recommend to get 320GB 5400rpm drive since it performs as fast as a 200GB 7200rpm drive... but with more storage and less heat.
5) the D901C (9262) is slightly larger and heavier, but has the most raw power with its desktop platform and SLI cards.
6) the M570TU (5796) is more portable and has a better batterylife... while still having great power. -

Welcome to the forums!!
I too was interested in the 5796... and as Gophn pointed out... the 9262 has more potential. And that is what I'm after... potential. You can get an SLI option, more HD (capable of 3 vs 1), and quad core options (great for CAD) Since this will be your main PC at home... it's definitely the BEST DTR from what I read. You won't need to worry about it's heaviness since you can use to hands to carry it from short distances
Over all, from what you are looking to use this laptop for... 9262 seems to be the winner. -
yep 9262 its really awesome i think i will screw up the np5796... what about this ocz extreme laptop that sxusteven told about? it seems to be really nice also, and it looks like even better than 9262 (talking about design).
The ati controllers work as fine as nvidia do? and one more question... i´d chose raid 0 would be it a smart choice better than 1?
I have only one "big" problem i have to order it from Spain:
- a really long trip
- dont perfectly know how the "usa taxes @ airport" work...
- if i have some issue with the laptop i will have some serious problems using the warranty becouse of the trip cost -
-
bygaro I don't think you have US tax issues? I think you have Spain tax issues. I agree with all that NP9262 is the beast and yes is more. But must say the NP5796 is very powerful unless you compare to 9262. I doubt most people could push either one? Well other than gaming but that is the easy way. I mean with work.

Not to hijack the thread but could you point me to the specs for the 5400rpm drives being just as fast as the 200's.
Thanks

I had the same question for a very, very long time. I knew I'd be using the system on the go quite frequently, so weight and battery life was quite important.
The NP5796 is lighter, the battery lasts a good 3 hours when fully optimized (1-2 hours normally), looks better IMO, and the width is smaller, so it can be packed more.
The 9262 of course has the quads and sli, but honestly, I have been quite happy with the performance I get out of this. I came from a custom desktop with the Q6700 and the 8800 GTS 512. This system is quite on par with what I was getting there.
The ONLY game that I cannot max out is Crysis. At full res, 1680x1050 all Very High, I'm only getting 20-25fps. IMO, Crysis is poorly optimized anyways. Crytek even admits it when saying how much better optimized Warhead is going to be.
The 5796 might be able to use the mobile quads in the short future here, so keep posted on that. The QX9300 is clocked at 2.53GHz, so it would perform better than the Q6600. Much newer technology too.
As far as not having the second HDD bay, I wish it did too so I could run RAID 0 or 5. However, the new Intel Turbo Memory is quite impressive this turn around and makes up for the lack of a second hdd where app loading is concerned.
So you have my opinion. The NP5796 is your system if battery life, weight, and size are important to you. -
), but not taxes - the US does not, in general, tax items when exported, certainly not when carried out by an individual as personal property. As powerpack says, your problems would be paying Spanish duties when you re-entered Spain.
Viz. the long trip, you could always have it shipped to you (just don't use USPS, use United Parcel Service or FedEX - USPS will almost certainly lose it in transit). Of course, Int'l shipping is a bit of a pain, and then there's still navigating your way through Spanish duties.
Another option would be to order from a European reseller, as the Sager NP9262 is just the Sager-branded version of the Clevo D901C, which several European Clevo resellers also rebrand under their own private labels. -
well i have some more trip info. You were right guys i have to pay spanish taxes to get it into the country. This tax would be 16% of the total prize so i think this will make impossible for me to make the purchase 230$trip+450$taxes is too much money to pay for it.
I was looking in several european webs and the prizes of the version of 9262 are like crazy so im right now a bit ****ed up
My only option atm is www.notebookguru.de with really nice offers and i think i have the laptop that i want on mind:

Thanks for all of your advices... they really help me -
Awesome choice. Can't wait to see how they perform. I'm wishing I had sli now. Just installed Crysis Warhead. Everything maxed at 1024x600 gives me about 20fps. Amazingly, I overclocked the cpu from 2.5ghz to 2.7 and got 5fps extra! Crysis Warhead finally takes advantage of the cpu properly.
EDIT: Actually, after figuring out that I was folding protein molecules on the gpu in the background and turning crap off in Vista and pulling my shader freqs to 1450 (As high as I can go at 2.7ghz), in a detailed level, with a mix between Gamer and Enthusiast mode at 1680-1050, I'm pulling in 30-40fps. Not bad...
NP9262 or np5796 ;)
