Which notebook is louder on average when the fans are running at both idle and and full speed? I am torn between these two models and I think this is the last deciding factor for me. Both would have single video cards and one HD. The NP5797 is a few hundred cheaper, but if its a lot louder than the NP9262 I'd rather have the upgrade potential for SLI and multiple HDs in the future.

    NP9262 - E8500 3.16GHz/4gb/320GB 7200RPM/9800M GTX

    NP5797 - T9800 2.93GHz/4gb/320GB 7200RPM/GTX 280M

IDLE: The 5797 has a louder cooling system, whereas the 9262 is quieter.
FULL SPEED: they`re both roughly as noisy, but the 5797 has a more irritating type of noise.

the Clevo D901C (Sager 9262) is definitely the quietest and cooling high-end gaming notebook on the market since it has 4 large diameter fans with large heatsink/fans to help cool the parts, which would need to spin up as much as compared to a gaming notebook with only 2-3 fans that need to spin up more often to cool the components.

My D901C is making a LOT of noise when all four fans are running, which they are most of the time. Should I try cleaning?

EDIT: Just did a few tests, the CPUs seemed to stay within 50-55C, so that shouldn't be the problem.
However, one of my GPUs (I have two) was always a 5-10C hotter than the other. I tried benchmarking my temps while playing Fallout 3 using RivaTuner, with fans running on max; at the highest, the one of the GPUs got all the way up to 70C while the other one never got over 62C. I've read serveal places that it isn't damaging before 90C, but is this still too hot?

Anyway, my problem is not really the heat, but the fan noise. I don't like using the computer in public places (school, trains) because of the very high noise it makes. Is this just something that I should get used to and should expect with a high-end notebook, or isn't it supposed to do this?

As I understand it, SLI rigs will always have one card warmer than the other.

Your CPUs are about 5-10 cooler than mine with the fans on, but my unit seems to run warmer than most.

SLI rigs, unless you have an X2 type of card like mine :D
Yes, it`s not meant for ultra quiet operation, but any 9262 or XPS1730 for that matter is quieter than the 579x.

If that's the case, there's DEFINATELY something wrong with my cooling system. Mine makes noise like a vacum cleaner when running.

is this your first gaming notebook?

if so, then you might think its loud... since typical use notebooks do not need more than one small fan.

if not, then you might need to open up your system and thoroughly clean out the fans and vents with Q-tips and compressed air.
