All,
Ive been a frequent visitor to this website but have never posted. There is a wealth of information here and I thank whoever runs it.
Ive got a SAGER NP9750 laptop based no the Clevo 900K chassis. 7800GTX Video card. It uses an AMD processor but still runs very hot. I can only imagine what the 900C chassis runs at with their INTEL chip.
Im currently in Iraq so sending it in for repair isnt that easy. Ill wait until I get home in April.
Ive got an issue where my Video is very scrambled. Its not 100% of the time and seems to get worse the longer it runs, whether in windows or just booting up into the BIOS. Therefore, I really dont believe it is driver related.
Ive read somewhere, that you can diagnose whether its your motherboard or not by going into the BIOS and watching the clock and comparing it to the clock on the LED window. The clock never locks up but the Video does become scrambled over time. Also, Ive seen the screen go full out black, or full out white on occasion.
All fans are working.
My question is, what does the LCD invertor do for us? Im leaning towards that or the Video Card. How do we determine which is the issue?
Secondly, Im unsure on whether or not Im willing for fork over 700 bucks for a new video card if I can even find one. Is there any way to take the 900K chassis and put a newer updated motherboard/ video card in it? In other words, can I use it as a barebone and rebuild it with more recent hardware or am I stuck with this older hardware with limited supplies?
Thanks goes out to GOPHN who seems to be an expert on this specific system. His CLEVO guide kicks arse. THANKS!!!

sounds like your GPU is overheating.

I was thinking the same thing, but not my heatsink is "very securely" adhered to the video card. I may try to pull it apart and reapply the AS5 to see if that helps. I am so afraid of damaging the laptop (video card) to the point of not being able to use it at all. I've got the S-Video out pushing video out to my TV so that I can watch the many movies I have stored on external HD's.
It does work fine upon initial start up. I use Fn+F2 key after boot to max out fans to keep it as cool as possible. I've taken it apart and cleaned all fans and CPU heatsinks.
I may try to reapply some AS5 if I can gently pry the Video Card from the Heat Sink. We'll see. Thanks for the reply. -
Just to keep everyone posted. I did pull the heatsink and video card apart. I don't have my desktop at home in front of me but this heat tape was pretty high speed. I believe, as I look at it, that I made the cuts (peices) to big and over time they've expanded slightly and are shorting out on the video card's circuitry. It's a metal based tape. Before taking it apart, it was running fine and the temperature was only at 56 degrees celcius at idle. I rebooted and the problem kicked in. I'll let everyone know how it turns out.

Sorry mate... really have no idea but I think I should post something, good luck! I'm sure they'll be people helping you out soon.

Pulled all heat tape off. Re-applied AS5 to GPU. Cleaned the card real well for any possible remnants of metal fibers from the heat tape shorting out the Circuit Card. It's not a temperature issue for sure and it's still occurring.
Is it possible to use this chassis as a barebone and buy more updated parts for it? I may just have to part this bad boy out. -
did you check the vents.... the vents?!?
are they cleaned out?
If they are cleaned out now, it might be too late since you might have let the videocard get permanently damaged from frequent overheats and might need a replacement now.
you can also try the Fan Toggle (Fn+F2) to see if it helps. -
I was hoping you'd chime in Gophn. The vents have been cleaned and always kept clean. I always utilize the Fn+F2 function every time I start the system. I'm leaning towards the motherboard now. It's having posting issues as well. Since a video card is more a less and output device, I don't think it would fail to boot if this was the issue.
Gophn...
Any recommendation for a decent repair facility once i get back to the states in April? -
there are multiple Clevo service centers worldwide.
