I've determined that I currently have 2x512MB of RAM in my Sager 9860-S. There are 4 slots so I'm looking to fill up the remaining 2 slots to get the 3GB max. This means that I need to get a 2GB kit of compatible memory. The existing memory is 200-pin 533MHz DDR2 but I would like to try out the 800MHz version since the notebook itself runs at 800 MHz FSB.

The users manual states the following:

    2 64bit wide DDR2 data channels
    4 200 pin DDR SO-DIMM sockets
    Expandable up to 2814MB (Compatible with 1024MB, 512MB, 256MB DDR2 modules)

It doesn't say anything about the memory having to be a specific speed or that the modules have to be the same speed. Soooo, has anyone tried out the PC2-6400 memory on the 98xx series? The price difference between 533MHz and 800MHz memory is minimal and I'd like to be able to re-use my new memory in my next notebook after this one fails, so I wouldn't care if the new memory downclocked automatically to 533MHz; I'd just like to know if PC2-6400 800 MHz DDR2 will work.

For that model, I would just recommend to get DDR2-533 for the best results... for compatibility.
