Don't tell me the new engine they use for ACIII is not as awesome in 3D as the previous titles? :(

And it only counts for desktop cards which sucks. I didn't see an increase in Skyrim at all.

Plus, the core is 405 instead of 135 @ idle. Anyone else got this?

weird, 7970M are also reporting downclocking issues when the gpu goes to idle. before, core/mem would go down to 300/150 but with the 12.11 drivers the gpu apparently only downclocks to 400/1200 when left on automatic regulation.

lucky me i can manually control the clocks via overdrive, so i can force the usual 300/150 clocks whenever im doing gpu-idle work on my machine. maybe u guys can do the same using nvidia inspector? worked for me as well when i still had my 485M :)

    cheers

I can confirm this.680m idles at 405 core and the same memory as before(324). I've done a bit of testing and it does seem like the framerate is improved by a good ~5% in BC2. That's all I've tested so far so I can't report about other games. Along with framerate, however, it seems my load temps have increased. Running with max fans it now hits 70-71C in BC2 while before it would hit 68C. The ambient temp is still 22C so I don't know if this just due to the ambient temp or if the new drivers allow the card to be used more thoroughly. Can anyone else confirm the temps?

EDIT: My mistake, ambient temp is actually 23 now so that's quite likely the reason behind the temperatures.

Honestly though. The downclocking at idle isn't a big concern for me. I have optimus set to use the integrated graphics for just about everything but games so the card turns itself off when not in use anyway.

When the HD 7970GHz with 12.11 is compared to the GTX 680 with 310.33, the HD 7970GHz wins 4:3.

    Easier on the eyes: http://alienbabeltech.com/abt/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=25729

And performance overall has increased 30% from the release driver to 12.11:
    http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=34162399&postcount=460

30% is huge and usually separates two distinct cards. Of course performance improvements are expected with every new architecture over time, but this seems pretty big compared to past occurrences. We are only just past the first half of the first year for this GPU series. Imagine what performance will be like a year from now when GCN is fully matured and tapped of further optimizations. Not that I am against Nvidia, but it makes it sweeter that Kepler doesn't have as much room to grow. I predict the HD 7000 series holding a strong resale value as time goes on.
