Hello, i'm stuck in a problem.
tried to clean my 1080 chipset in order to use the metal clip method to avoid my 90° sticking graphic card.
In the cleaning operation of the thermal paste, I encountered a problem with the black tape around the chipset who being unsticked around the chip and filled of paste.
I first try to clean it but the tape did'nt resist and start to crack.
I finally removed them completely and find information to clean the entire part...
Now i'm stuck with a clean graphic chip without protection around it where tiny electronics appears now.
Should I try to repaste it like that, or i must buy some special tape to recover it before?
I thinked to find a shop where an electronician could help me, but if I can do it by myself, it would be more sastisfying, even more if the card still working![]()
EDIT : I found something about Kapton Tape. It is what I should use?

This ^^^
If you are using traditional thermal paste (I.e. Not liquid metal) you are good to go without that tape.Papusan likes this. -
I did it, it work as expected, and I’m happy using the metal clip now my gpu slowly go and stabilize around 88°C after 10mn of RDR2, with some short peak to 90°C without thermal throttling
Previously they was going to 90° in about 30s and stick to it with thermal throttle -

Just be super careful as those tiny surface mounts can break off easily.

If you do want to put tape back on to be safe, the stuff you want is Kapton Tape (otherwise known as Polyimide tape)
As mentioned above though, Be careful the small components the tape stocks too, they can be easily knocked/pulled off

Kapton tape is usually a clear yellowish tape.
Need Advice after a probably "bad operation" on P775TM1-G 1080 Chipset Cleaning
