i need your advice on choosing a CPU for my Sager NP9262 notebook, but I dont know which CPU to choose. I do run some beefy programs, such as FL Studio, and I convert videos, but I still don't know which one of these processors to choose because the core 2 extreme is $975 more. I just need to get the most powerful processor for grunt work, but one that will also play incredible games. So which one should I choose?

    Intel® Core™ 2 Quad Processor Q6700 / 8MB L2 Cache, 2.66GHz, 1066MHz FSB

    Intel® Core™ 2 Extreme Processor X6800 / 4MB L2 Cache, 2.93GHz, 1066MHz FSB

and sorry for the long speech.

lol, i had a pentium 2 back in 95. so the processors have nothing to do with games now, even though it is a system requirement for all games?

Take the Q6700. Nowadays, you should go for a better graphics card rather than the fastest CPU.

Don't worry about future proofing your comp - for the 975$, in 2-4 years you can use that to put toward a new laptop

Because it's the best they can come up with (not that it's blazing performance, but rather that it's the top model).

WHAT? CPU HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH GAME?

Ok you go play a game with an insane physics engine (they had those in 95?) and with a PII, then with a quad core / dual core and tell me about your playing experiance.
