I've been looking for laptops a lot, and Sager has been my favourite option. But it only has upto 250GB hard disk space. Is there any similarly priced Clevo (same as Sager NP5792/3) that can have like 320GB space ?
Thank you!
-
-
No, it can have up to 320GB HDD space. If you really want to buy one talk to the Sager resellers. They can sell you the laptop without the HDD so you can put it yourself or they can get you a 320GB HDD.
-
Okay guess I'll have a talk with XoticPC sales rep. P.S. Any other laptops based on the same Clevo I can buy straight off with 320GB+ ?

As Fade to Black stated, you can request it without hard drive. As of now Sager does not have a 320GB Hard Drive.
-
Okay. Thanks! But could you not install the 320GB HD yourself? I'd obviously pay for the additional charges.
I understand you're resellers of Sager. But sager may not have 320gb for their 5793 model. But the clevo it's based on can support it... sorry for being such a nag, I'm horribly confused now. Since I'll be in college, not carrying around a lottery of disks, I would need that much space atleast. -
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
^ Of course! Hard Drives are very easy to install.
The machine will support it. The only issue is Sager does not have it available as of yet....
-
Then is it possible for you to ship a 320GB hard disk along with the laptop and the laptop itself without a hard disk, so I could install it myself ? You don't get any hardware for nuts here in Bahrain.
-
Most Sager resellers never actually see the laptop they sell you, they come direct from the Sager factory (wherever that is), so they can't really install one for you. One thing I have to ask however, do you really want a 320gb HDD? That means you are stuck with a 5400rpm drive, and the NP5792 is a high performance machine... you are not going to get the most out of it with a slow HDD inside. Might I suggest getting the 579X with a 200gb 7200rpm drive, and then using a small 2.5" external for storage? The Western Digital Passport series is very nice, and offer a 320gb version. That would give you 520gb of HDD space, and the extra drive would fit in your pocket. Best choice I think mate.

That could probably be arranged and provided in the box by us. Sager might be offering it by the time you are ready to purchase anyway.
-
Okay that sounds fine, but I really wanted internal :/
Oh well, anyway so you're saying 200GB 7200rpm is better than 250gb 5400rpm ? How worse could it be by a little slower speed ? Games should play the same right ?
As you probably already know, I'll be finally purchasing on 20th march or little later. Do you expect Sager to release it with 320GB until then ?
EDIT: I emailed them earlier and didn't get a response. -
), so I would give some due consideration to what he said, and perhaps see if you have any more wiggle room left in your purchasing time-schedule.
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
We dont have any confirmed information at this time on any additional hard drive offerings
-
Okay no problem. If the 320gb does indeed release on the Sager, then I'll go for it. Else, do what I was told ~ get an external for storage
-
A 320GB at 5400 is dirt cheap now and as fast as a 200 gb 7200 rpm one, because it`s very dense. Besides, the diference would not be visible compared to other single mode hdds.
-
And yea, I've heard that before "A 320GB at 5400 is dirt cheap now and as fast as a 200 gb 7200 rpm one". It's the reason I want it, big, fast AND cheap
mostly cus its big.
-
And the density on an 320GB 2.5" drive it´s not that higher than on an 200GB 2.5" drive. The 320GB one use 3 plates, and 200GB ones use 2 plates(Hitachi/Seagate). So the 320GB one have 106GB density per plate, and an 200GB one have 100GB per plate.
Thats not much...
Go for the 200GB 7200RPM (Hitachi is faster than Seagate), and buy an external 3.5"/2.5" drive.
-
Buy it separately and install it yourself. You said something about buying next month or so? Wait until then and decide.
If you really want this laptop you'll work something out.
Audigy, they have the same performance. They have been both benchmarked and it's the same level of performance. What do you want more? -
Okay then... Gonna wait till end of next month. If something comes up like internal 320GB, I'll go for it. Else, a big external
Thank you again!
EDIT: Now if only there was a script to auto add rep to users on screen -
The 200GB 7200RPM is a better drive overall, seek times does matter... -
A few ms more, I'd say that it's not really noticeable. Anyway, space matters more to me.
-
-
Multiply that few ms when you drive is seeking random data on our disc to grab some files that your OS have requested... that few ms will be several seconds...
RPM does matter, latencies does matter, seek times does matter...
-
To some it would, but no me. I just wanna game high speed

Yeah. I'm sure things will work themselves out
-
If I'll buy from US, I'll get a laptop without the HDD & RAM as I can get them cheaper here (US + VAT=more expensive) and because I can't get a 320GB HDD there.
-
Okay I just emailed Sagernotebook.com sales dept. and Brian responded with this.
Thereby giving me the ideal laptop, with not one component to be unsatisfied about
PM sent to Justin. -
In real life the 320GB HDD is cheaper, I don't know why they woun't use something decent, like WD, instead of Toshiba.
-
-
No, but it's a great unknown this Toshiba, this is why I'm saying that you should get the WD. It has proven performance and it's cheaper than the 200GB Hitachi.
Why not install the HDD yourself? You can get a system without RAM & HDD. -
Yea. I'll keep that as my last option. Right now, I'm waiting for Justin to come on and respond to my PM. If he agrees to do what Sager is ready to do and install a custom drive for me, then I'll request Justin to install a WD instead of Toshiba.
Atleast thanks to this thread and all you guys, I atleast see good options now.
1. Get 200GB 7200rpm internal and use large external for storage.
2. Get 320GB 5400rpm that is now being offered.
3. Get no hard disk and install one myself.
4. Get 250GB 5400rpm and be happy with it.
Option 3 is a no-no since I doubt I'd get half-decent hardware in Bahrain at double a decent price, if at all!
Option 4 is what I would have done if it weren't for you guys.
A rep++ I'd have done to so many people if the freakin' forum didn't have limitations reputation increments per 24 hours -
Good luck with your search btw -
The shipping costs too much. It would be cheaper to pay Sager more for the 320GB HDD.
-
Get the Hitachi 200GB 7200RPM 16MB cache... I have one, it´s the best that I´ve seen on notebooks...
200GB it´s not bad, you will have plenty of space for your OS, files and games and if you need more, just buy an external HDD... I´ve one 3.5" 500GB firewire and an 2.5" 160GB USB...
And btw the 320GB drive is cheaper than the Hitachi 200GB 7k. -
200GB is bad for me for instance. I need more than that and I don't want to carry a separate drive around.
He already said he wants more...and the 320GB HDD is like a 200GB Hitachi. -
Ok, if you really REALLY need 320 gb to come with the lappy, then just order from eurocom. They offer it as an option.
-
Eurocom should learn to have decent prices in the first place to be recommended here (their Intel WLan card costs 105$, 3 times the retail price, HDD and RAM cost a hell of a lot of money).
-
Point taken, but they`re canadian. And their economichal system is mainly adressed to canadians.
Bottom line, the 320 GB hdd is the best option right now : huge disk space, better battery life and performance on par with a 200gb at 7200rpm. Perfect compromise.
I`m getting one pretty soon -
No, the international orders are shipped from outside Canada (New York I believe), so they have nothing to do with Canadian policies.
eleron911, did my sites help (the ones I told you to search with)? -
Eurocom actually has the m570 (np5793) for really good prices. Anyone know if they have a college student discount (high school senior going to college
)
-
No, they don't. Try XoticPC for a comparison.
Eurocom's basic price is OK (when you leave RAM & HDD upgrades alone) though. I hate that they charge 105$ for a 35$ wireless card.
PS: they do have an educational discount (I believe it's 5%) for Canadians.
PS: The 5793 is the Clevo M57xRU-U. -
Actually, spec for spec, eurocom is cheaper in american dollars (most of their upgrades are reasonable, except for wifi) by 50 dollars, and thats WITH the sager cash discount. Adding a 320 gb hard drive would bring the price to 20 bucks below sager's non cash discount price for a better config! (t9300, intel wifi-n, 8800,250 gb,2 gb, 1900x1200 screen, webcam, bluetooth,no os), with comparision to xoticpc. Hell, 2 gb ram is standard, and the upgrade to 8800 is only 227.
-
The not so decent upgrade prices include the HDD, RAM and WLAN card. I agree on the basic configuration. They have improved recently. Standard = you still pay for it. The upgrade price for the 8800M is irrelevant, as they charge more for the default card.
Anyway, they have a very decent basic price. I wonder if they would sell a system without the RAM and HDD. -
-
Not a bad price for the HDD, though by comparing a 320GB one (which can be had for around 100$ with VAT), the price is so...sucky.
-
In that case,I might consider getting it online from the US
-
No...I meant a desktop 320GB HDD costs 100$ (VAT included) here. Or 120 (with VAT)?...
-
That`s the notebooks world.Pay more,get less
-
No XoticPC is finalized for me. No eurocom or anything else. XoticPC is already reliable and well affordable PLUS I get 50% off on shipping being a student. And yea, Justin is ready to ship the 320GB installed, for me
Need Clevo based laptop with >250GB storage!
