Even though you don't live in the US you get 50% off for the shipping?

Didn`t know about that, might`ve saved myself some money to get 4 gb of ram back when I got mine...

I emailed Sagernotebook sales dept. again asking if I could get a WD instead of a toshiba drive.
@ Fade To Black, it seems I DON'T get 50% off on shipping for international deliveries.
-
Too bad about the shipping.
-
But not bad about the hdd
-
I wouldn't pay them more out of principle (considering the 320GB is cheaper than the 200GB one and they charge you 15$ more).
-
-
Yeah, to buy one without the HDD, but that might night be a good ending for you.
Find out how much it would cost to buy one where you live. -
If laptop disks are different, then I doubt I'd get one here in Bahrain. -
Forget about it then.
-
Stick with XoticPc as they said they can fit the hdd in your laptop and that gives you no hassle in getting and installing it yourself. 15$ is not that much in your situation.
-
Will be doing that.. either way I wouldn't like opening up a brand new (and first) laptop on arrival. And $15 compared to $2800 or so is negligible.
-
Something else to chew on:
When installing XP, you must have a partition less then 137GB, or XP's Setup will not recognize the 137GB+ drive.
Vista I think will, by default, see them and install normally. -
Vista is what I'll be using anyway

According to what I've seen, WinXP supports 48-bit LBA addressing provided[/] you have SP1 or later. M$ has an article on it here.
So, provided that a Clevo can otherwise handle 48-bit LBA addressing (e.g., because Clevo didn't burn a 137GB limit into the BIOS, unlike the munchkins over at $ony - is my disdain showing too much), and you're installing WinXPSP1 or later, you shouldn't have any trouble with a hdd bigger than 137GB.
I'd check in the BIOS setup to see if a 137GB limit exists; if it does, however, a simple way to work around it is to install WinXP on another drive (if you're like me, you'll eventually have a couple of spare second-hand notebook hdds lying around), then use a good partitioning app to set up the over-137GB drive you want to end up being your primary physical disk so that you have no partition bigger than 137GB, and then clone the installation you did on the other, smaller drive over to the partition on the over-137GB drive that will serve as the boot partition.
Aside: I spent most of the week-end figuring this out and implementing it, and then doing a little victory-jig
Take that, $ony!Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Now if you want to talk about Sager's HDD selection, I agree that they could improve some there. Not offering a 320gb option or solid state drives is silly when they are aiming at the enthusiast market. Fortunately for me, the drive I wanted was the 200gb Travelstar, and they do carry it. I highly reccomend to the OP that he take the Travelstar option, as it is the fastest notebook HDD you can buy, and suppliment that storage with the 320gb WD Passport, which is IMO the top of the line when it comes to portable external storage. I own both, and combined with my NAS (1.3 some TB) I am not even close to half my current capacity, a nice place to sit for a change.
Need Clevo based laptop with >250GB storage!
