Ok guys, I just got delivered my Sager 9261 from Xotic PC yesterday. From what I can tell, they are a pretty good reseller with a solid reputation. I am excited to finally have my gaming laptop but I wanted to ask all of you laptop/notebook experts for suggestions on how to tweak my computer to maximize performance. I am very unfamilar wiith Vista (x64bit version installed) and some of the hardware components that I ordred. I am ready and willing to the necessary tweaks but I can't do a full hard drive reformat and clean install. I have already done all of the updates via MicroSoft update function.

So...please, let me have your suggestions on how to get the most out of my beast! In particular, I want to know the following:

    1. Should I get a new video driver and if so, which one and from where can I get it.

    2. Is there anything I should do to maximize the performance of my hard drive and CPU.

    3. Are there any Vista tweaks or downloads I need.

    4. How can I adjust my speakers...I understand that my laptop has 4 speakers...but I can't seem to find a control/option to configure the lap to emulate 4 speakers or is this just automatic?

    5. How do I confirm the specification of the hardware that was installed in my laptop. I generally like to confirm all the hardware conforms to what I ordered...its not that I distrust the reseller, its just a pre-cautionary step I like to take when I buy anything that inolves installed components. For example, how do I confirm that the two drives installed in the Raid 0 format are the 160g 7200 RPM 300SATA draves...when I look under Device Manager I can't get any pertinant information.

    6. Any other tweaks or suggestions to maximize the performance and gaming goodness of this laptop.

THANKS...the specifics of my laptop are below:

    1. Get the newest video drivers you can. They have updates for the latest games. 169.17 is the newest you can get them (in a few days) from www.laptopvideo2go.com . There are instructions on how to install them on their site and some SLI info in the D901C owners thread.

    2. Again, if you check the D901C owners thread there are links to optimization threads to help you with that.

    3. Yet again, if you check the D901C owners thread there are links to tweak Vista there.

    4. In vista go to control panel then sound/audio there should be a check to change your speaker configuration to 4 speakers.

    5. You can download Sisoft Sandra it has tools (freeware) that will tell you exactly what you have.

    6. Check the D901C Owners thread. There are a lot of good articles that I have linked to in it for D901C owners.

That should take care of most of your questions.
