Hi, i Know this could go into the "help me choose a laptop thread" but i dont need to type all that in because i have narrowed my search down to a few (ok a little more)). ok i have been a long time lurker of these forums and the time has come where im getting a new laptop. A little background: I always really wanted an alienware laptop, but from hearing all the horror stories i am convinced its not worth the hassle and the large amount of weight (like 12 lbs).thats why i was seriously considering the m15x just the other day but it seems they are still having problems. I also was thinking about getting a dell xps, and i am a current dell inspiron e1501 owner and this thing is beyond awful, but had no say in what i got haha i was like 15. Lastly i was considering macbook pro because im going to be a freshman in college this fall, but i think they are overpriced, and that leads me to stumbling upon sager. i have been hooked to the np8862, but lets break it down.
The importants- these need to run smoothly:
Gaming
engineering programs
accounting programs
lots of music and videos
screen-15 or 17 ok. depends on weight and battery life.
the weight needs to be under control i really dont want anything over 9 lbs
1920x1200 resolution
BATTERY LIFE-i understand im not gonna get more that 2 hours, if that even, but need the best i can get without sacrificing performance.
a graphics card that can EASILY handle new games. COD Crysis etc.
ok so here are my laptop choices i have made. (Brace yourself!!!))) im putting some in just for comparisons but if you guys recommend them thats good.
m15x-powerful, light, good battery life i think? bad customer service, poorly built.
m17-i need help with this one haha
Sager np8662- i like it, i just question its battery life, and its graphics card. PLease answer.. are they good.
sager np5797- 17in. battery life?, the weight is pushing it.
ok and im also looking at these.
sager np9280
sager np9850
asus g50vt
asus g71g
ok and finally i am going to be a college student so it will be both at my dorm and at some classes.
oh and p.s. price right now is lets do two price ranges cuz i have not decided
around 1500$ and then one around 2500$ i just wanna see what i can get for those prices. im really leaning towards the np8662. ok please let me know your thoughts. thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!

Welcome to the NBR forums.
thats a large list of gaming notebooks there.
would you mind filling out the FAQ.
it might help us give more precise suggestions/comments. -
Megacharge Custom User Title
If you are looking for low weight laptop that can crunch some numbers while being able to run the latest games well in a very high resolution, I would recommend the Sager NP8662 equipped with a QX9300, and a GTX 260M, it seems to be what you are looking for.
I recommend you check out Powernotebooks.com or XoticPC as both of these places have some of the best customer service around, and the lowest prices I've seen for the Sager models, they even sell Sagers for cheaper than Sager does believe it or not. -
hey thanks a ton i filled out the FAQ but double posted it. Im sorry
. and thank you for the reply sir, but i have a few questions. I cant seem to find the QX9300 and if i do how much is that upgrade? is it worth the 275$ upgrade to the graphics card? do you know the battery life or how to extend it? is turbo memory worth it? i heard it does nothing. Lastly all this stuff is coming from xoticpc haha. thanks a ton mate.

If I was you i would go for the 5797..
Weight is on the edge(like you said) of being too heavy. But, managable
Performance: Set up with the QX9300 and the GTX 280m it will tackle anything you throw at it now and down the road.
Battery life: You will get anywhere from 1 hour to 1 1/2 depending on what you are doing.
8662 is just a little under the NP5797 as far as performance but, still will handle pretty much anything you through at it today and in the future.
The Asus G50vt-X5 has the [email protected] CPU(i hear can be OC around 2.5)with the 9800m gs GPU and, the bios can be flashed to the 9800m GTS...This machine has some good qualities and some bad...I hear that they have been having problems with start-up crashes and the wireless adaptor fails at times when coming out of sleep mode...And, the lightning bolt design don't appeal to many people but, I think it looks ok...It can handle most games from medium high to high settings with ease. Some of these problems could be the buyer's fault(wrong drivers) and not the machine's fault...Who knows?
Also, Alienware has been taken over by Dell and their customer service has changed alot from what i have been hearing, So, maybe the horror stories will be cut in half in the future.
If weight is an issue then the 9280 and 9850 is out of the question
Hope this narrows it down some for you.
