Need Help with Sager NP8150HMx

hi guys

i have a sager NP8150HMx laptop ... the laptop has an AMD HD 6990m and it started malfunctioning before around a week so i sent it to a repair shop near by. they said the solder under the card has been separated from the GPU ( dont know if this is true or not ) and they heated the card and it worked again but after 5 days it came back the way it was ... i really dont know what to do with it and to be honest i cant afford a new one ( on ebay around 300$ and i live in a far country so it will cost me at least 380$ ) so i am looking for a way to either fix this card or if there is a way to enable the intel HD graphics , any suggestions or help ?

Unfortunately we've heard this a few time with the 6990M. What they did is similar to a method called "baking" you can try it again but as you've seen its just a temporary fix. A new card is really your best solution. The 7970M will also work in your computer, just make sure you get a Clevo/Sager card.

is there anyway to start the laptop with the Intel Graphics ? since the cpu has intel HD 3000 .... and if not what is there any other methods to fix the card ? and if not from your knowledge what are the prices for the HD 7970M and where can i find the lowest priced because as i stated am looking for the cheapest way to fix it .

cheapest gpu in that system would be a 460m or 560m. where are u located? ebay is always an option of course...

 

The HM models did not come with switchable graphics, so unfortunately the dGPU is needed. This is a problem not just with the 6990m, but a number of other GPUs from AMD and Nvidia. The Nvidia 8000 were notorious for it as well, I know, I had one. The only way to fix it is to remelt the solder contacts. That is what baking does. There is no cheaper way, and even baking is not 100% effective. You just have to search around Ebay for a replacement. Neither the 6990m nor 7970m are in production, so supplies are limited, hence the prices do not vary much.

Sorry for your misfortune. It turns out that I had a similar problem a week ago: my 8170hmx MoBo died. I'm purchasing a new computer instead of replacing it, which means that the parts (including a 6990m card!) are up for sale for cheap. PM me if you're interested.

i live in Jordan ... but the problem is that on ebay even the 460m cost is around 200$ without shipping so i guess i will either try "baking" it again and hope it work again for a while or just throw it away
