Hey guys, I have a CLEVO P150HM, and my gpu died around two weeks ago. I decided I wanted to replace the GPU, so I ordered one off ebay. However, now that I searched around a bit in this forum, I found out that there are issues with compatibility with a CLEVO laptop and an alienware GPU. I also read that this compatibility issue may be fixed by flashing the vBios. So I was wondering whether someone could post a guide to successfully making the alienware GPU compatible with my CLEVO laptop. The video card in question is the AMD Radeon HD 6990m. I've unfortunately already ordered the alienware card, and it is set to arrive in a couple of days, so I can't get a clevo one instead. Thanks in advance.

Alienware/Dell AMD GPUs don't work in Clevo laptops.

Depends on the machine too, saying no to dell GPUs is more of a general rule. However the exceptions tend to be very specific.

The experts can correct me on this but the P150HM accepts:

Clevo or MSI 7970M (hardware v1.2) - preflash or blind flash a vbios that disables Enduro (HDMI doesn't work most of the time I think)
680M with MSI 80.04.33.00.24 and Clevo 80.04.29.00.01 vbios (can't use sleep because on wake the screen will be blank)
675M (don't know the vbios or vendor requirement)

Did you say you ordered another 6990M? I'm pretty everyone that's had the 6990M has experienced a premature failure....

Actualy, to my surprise the GTX 675m DELL/Alienware worked in my P170hm3. I didn't have to change the bios or anything. I just installed it in the system and powered it up. It booted up obviously with the low resolution and such that you would expect when drivers are not installed.
In order to install the drivers I had to modify the drivers, this was very easy to do. The only tricky part was actually installing them. I can't remember what error kept coming up but basically it wasn't detecting the card or something. This is because of Window's driver verification thing, at least I think it was. What I had to do was restart windows with that disabled, then install the drivers. They installed just fine and the card has performed great for me.
    I followed these instructions : http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...-drivers-that-are-considered-unsigned.762824/

Maybe only the p170hm3 they work for but I doubt it.
Edit: I just realized you said 6990m. Still though, maybe there is a similar process for that card if it doesn't work at first.

The 675M is the same as the 580M, which was part of the original options offered for the HM

I said Dell/Alientware gtx 675m. There's a difference between Dell and Clevo made cards. The same goes for MSI.

Well there can be bios differences between all of them, while all of them do use the same chip yes not all of them will work in every system.

The later machines do use a more standard ec reading method so are less likely to have issues. Thanks for letting us know.
