My 8800M GTX died and I finally received a new one, but the situation is () up. The new one came with this metal bracket anchor that the old one didn't have and it's preventing the card from fitting into the heat sink the way it's supposed to. To make matters worse the entire card is wrapped in this silver sticker thing that i assume is supposed to help with heat dissipation. How do I remove the metal bracket or should I even try? I'd have to remove the silver sticker thing and it seems really risky.......

New card with part of sticker pulled up and showing 1 corner of bracket...

I had to remove a similar backplate from my the 9800M GTS that came with my M860TU. Using a blow-dryer to loosen the adhesive before prying it off worked for me.

I suggest you leave the silver sticker on, just place it back once you have removed the bracket. I also suggest that you make sure you are grounded before handling since it is easy to ruin the GPU from static.

As 5482741 mentioned, the bracket is using adhesive. When I removed a similar bracket I didn't use any heat. Try gently and firmly to see whether you will need anything else to help remove it. You can usually just push down on each corner on the top of the 4 areas to help loosen it.
